Monday Mumsie

Hello out there---Caleb is sitting up in his wheelchair, hangin with Jen and doing speech therapy- he can make humming sounds with his throat and they downsized his tube which means one step closer to having no tube in his throat at all. After the wires are removed in his jaw on Wed. they will cap the tube and if he breathes well on his own for 2 or 3 days - out it comes. He clearly understands so many things - Jen puts her head down to his and he gives her kisses- each morn he hugs me back and gives a kiss on the cheek - he will respond to questions that require a yes or no answer and seems to comprehend most things asked of him. This is monumental! After one hour of therapy he is down for the count and sleeps soundly which is important because when Caleb is bored - we all suffer! He is a bit thinner than all of you would remeber, but I am confident that we can get him back in the saddle , beef him up and get him right back on that broncho. I bless all of you who have helped my family and myself get through this to date - Caleb is so courageous and willing to move forward to wherever he can go in one days time - that is my motto with him - just one day Caleb, just one day at a time. Love to you all. Mum

So many good ideas are coming from this blog and the comments people are leaving. I too won't be in Wellfleet tomorrow night, but I will light a candle, grab a beer, and say a little prayer for Caleb and his doctors from my deck in Sandwich.

Dear Sharyn.

Oh, how we Moms(ies) love our sons and daughters too.I think of Caleb, and all of his family on the Cape, every day with loving hope for your comfort as he continues to progress. How far he has come in such a short time! I share your updates in conversations with Vivi and have printed out some of the very beautiful photographs on the blog for her. A friend of mine was vacationing in Wellfleet and told me about Caleb and the incredible community support behind him. I am astonished and very impressed - it makes me wish I lived in a small town where people truly looked out for one another. You are all very lucky people.
And I too am rooting for Caleb. He seems like a courageous person. I am sure that all of the support he is getting from your community is helping him heal even better and faster.

Hi,
My family and I have vacationed each summer for a week in Wellfleet. We started when our youngest was two, and he just graduated high school. We will be coming down Sat. The owner of the house we are renting told me about the prayer circles and Caleb's recovery after I mentioned the article I read in the Boston Globe. I just want to say that the energy and love from this community are extraordinary and inspiring, and I'd like to add mine to it. Prayers and peace to you, Mumsie, and of course to Caleb. Marsha

Hi Sharyn,
The blog is such a life saver during our travels! Last thing in the evening, I visualize what I might see written the next day. First thing in the morning, I read the blog.- What I see has always exceeded my expectations! You are both amazing!
I continue lighting candles in all of the great cathedrals we've encountered in Germany: So far, there are candles burning in Hamburg, Luebeck,Bamberg, Landsberg, and Regensburg. Tonight, I will light an especially powerful one in Munich cathedral for the upcoming surgery.
Lots of love and strength,
Ken

Sharyn,

I don't know you, but I've gotten to know Jan a little bit from lunch breaks at the Fish. I ran into Jan last night and mentioned I hadn't seen him there in a while. I had no idea he was Caleb's father. For that matter, I didn't think I even knew Caleb until I saw a photo and recognized the guy I've chatted with about cars once in a while at the South Wellfleet General Store. He strikes me as so friendly and lit up - it's no wonder everyone I know who knows him loves him dearly. I hope to meet you sometime and send you a huge amount of love.

Praying,
love,
Dakota
