On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.

I think we need to get away from commercializing Caleb and keep our focus on prayer and healing How about the possibility of helping out at the Potter house stacking that wood or maybe finding a way to get the kids in town to wear helmets.

If you call fund-raising for Caleb's benefit commercializing, I certainly don't know where you are coming from. Don't you know this booth is being put together by the most full of praying heart of all? Think about it.

Not saying anything at all about Shaye. He most definitely has his heart and soul in the right place. I'm looking at a larger picture of need, financial need, of dozens of people right here in our community who maybe didn't have insurance or maybe aren't as well-known and hence well-loved and provided for as the Potter clan has been. If need arises for more $ for Caleb won't we send in more? Of course!

Just a few thoughts from someone on the outside looking in... First of all, hats off to Shaye...a most honorable young man. He has my prayers, too. And secondly, no one can predict what Caleb's future financial needs may be. Insurance companies don't always approve payment for therapies that may well be needed (my family's experience). And maybe what could grow out of this incredible pulling together of a community could be some type of emergency fund for families or individuals in need. It seems that would be in keeping with the generosity of spirit that has endeared Caleb to so many.

There are state funds available to people out of work, no job, no insurance, etc. and the family should look into what the state has to offer for someone in Caleb's position.....

What better place than the Oyster Fest. More people in one place than usual and centered on Caleb's livelihood. Any extra money which I doubt there will be any, can be passed on to a new fund or family, that to be determined later. The fund raising effort is always part of the thoughts and prays just more obvious. Good idea Shaye.

If Shayrn needs help in a non financial, way she knows to ask. Maybe this will help all to see how there could be more thought on a local level towards our friends and families is some sort of need.

I think Shaye is awesome and I have never met him. I only wish I had a friend who loved me so much! I think the fact that Caleb will be "present" at an event so important to him is wonderful!!!

i suspect that if there is an overflow of $ then the potter lindsay's will pass it on to someone else in need but i doubt there will be.
if people are offended or do not want to give, they don't have to, it's optional!
why use state funding when there is local LOVE $ to be had?
the oysterfest is about oystermen, to keep them here & keep them working, that includes caleb when he can.
listen, i run the arts & craft area & get calls from every tom dick & harry from coast to coast.
when shaye asked for a booth it made perfect sense.
i had been waiting to see who would come forth & was delighted it was shaye himself.
we have all these other folks vying for $, why not have a place for shaye & caleb, they are in this together.
let's be supportive of shaye's VALIANT effort to do what he can for caleb AND heal his own heart!
TONS of love, xoxooxoxoxdeirdre

I sit here with tears in my eyes wondering why there would be any discussion in what Shaye is doing. I'm not sure who or why anyone would have anything negative to say about this and I'm not sure who would feel mad about people getting together to do something this positive and powerful at the same time. I don't know Caleb and I don't know Shaye, but each and every day for one reason or another, they come into my mind and make me feel better about this world. Thank you.

why would it be a bad thing for shaye to continue raising money for his fallen friend.
people spend alot of money during the oysterfest.
why not have some go towards caleb.
one hundred percent of shayes sales are going to caleb
commercializing caleb
come on, dont you have anything better to do.
if you dont like the idea , dont buy anything from him.
better yet call him up and let him know when your available for stacking wood at the potter house.
he'll be there. will you?

Shaye,

You are a true friend to Caleb and he knows it. What an awesome idea to continue the fundraising efforts. Caleb's road to recovery will be long and arduous and not only will he be out of work, but my guess is that Sharyn will be out of work as well. This equates to two incomes, two sets of bills and expeditures in addition to the mounting medical expenses (as someone else already mentioned there are co-pays and expenses not covered by insurance), prescriptions, alternative therapies, equipment that may be needed for home and car, etc. The list can go on and on. What you are doing for your friend is admirable and don't believe anything else.

Rock on Shaye-
Audrey

Thanks for being so amazing, Shaye! We will help hold down the Caleb fort during Oysterfest. His presence will be strong because his community is havings its annual jag-in-the-streets weekend! He will be in our hearts and should be able to be a sticker, tee shirt, or oyster emblem to be teken out of Wellfleet with pride by the people who come to be a part of Wellfleet. We love you, Shaye!
