On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Von Lindsay

Hello again - I love this guest bloggin thing... for those of you who want to understand just who Lisa is-and what she means to the community, take all the wonderful things said on the blog, times that , let's say by about 100 and maybe you get close to just how cool she is!

Handing Caleb a newly purchased chalk board proved interesting...When asked to write our
names, he wrote -- Caleb Von Potter, moms name is Sharyn Von Lindsay, Kai Von Potter, Max Von Potter. I actually like the Von and would ask that all of you address us as such in the future. Language is still in there, he is just having a difficult time transferring that to speech..
Leb has a great room mate who speaks Creole and who now calls me mum as well. Glad Lisa can speak Creole cause Caleb might come out of here speaking Creinglish.
Kai arrived last evening. From the time he was little till now, we are joined at the hip. He is by no means a mommas boy. He is independent, smart as a whip, accomplished and just about everything I ever wanted to be. We share spirituality and a similar outlook on life and I sometimes just forget that we are mother/son. We are completely honest with one another and can talk about anything. Mostly we talk about Caleb. We lay out our fears, our hopes, our tears, our laughter and my spirits are lifted just by being in his presence. Max will arrive today. He is the drop dead handsome, steady and quiet one. Great bass guitar player and beautify voice. We always say that Max doesn't say much - but like that perfume advertisement, when he whispers, people pay attention! I want to introduce you to yet another son- not legitimate nor illegitimate .. just another son named Tim. We call him Timalah. Tim has been by my side through all of this ordeal also - he walks our beloved dog, Spudly each night after he returns from a long day at work, feeds the cat and keeps Max company while I have to be away. He travels with us - eats all my holiday meals and loves the shirts I buy him for Christmas. Thank you Tim. I feel better knowing I have two sons at home!
Sharyn Von Lindsay is taking an hour off for a facial ( compliments of Suzie B. thank you) and then the entire Potter clan is joining me for an outing to the Science museum.
We are trying to keep life as normal as is possible in this situation . We tell stories, poke fun, laugh and hold each other up. Family is the sacred breath that we inhale each day and breathe out with a sigh of relief- Caleb is still with us and he will prevail. Love, mumsie

So glad you are all getting some time to ENJOY Boston and its wonder. Caleb Von Potter is an amazong man. I Love that, Caleb (from) Potter. Perhaps I'll change my name to Peace Von Wellfleet! We'll see. Its a beautiful day here. Seems like summer is holding on as long as it can. The new location for caleb Von Potter's shrine looks great up by the cannon. A safer spot for all the breakables and it seems to glow with spendor at night. The love from town hall is still strong, Caleb. We love you so much! Starting this Monday, October first, prayer circle times will be changed to noon and 7pm. That way lunch breaks and after dinners can be spent with hands held with love for the lad. Caleb, PLEASE come home soon!
Smiles & Blessings~ Another gorgeous day xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Hello Hottie Von Lindsay! I hope you have a fabulous time at the Museum. That place is sweet. Today is Mike's birthday! I made him a cake and we're having a 'champagne party' at Nick Canu's house! Nick grew up in Eastham or Orleans, one of those. Those OuterCape tweekers stick together. The other night we were at The 3 Needs, our newly adopted dive bar, and Nick, Phil and Mike were talking and I was like 'Nick, sweet Eastham shirt' and then Phil opened up his jacket and was like 'Oh yah?' Another sweet Eastham shirt- and then Mike was like Check this out - and he's got his Wellfleet Juice shirt on. Cape Cod Boys. Mike McNulty will be at the party tonight too. So tell Caleb that its Mike's birthday and next time we visit Caleb owes Mike a big wet kiss. Love you, Katie

To the Von Lindsay/Potter Clan,

I have been waiting for the day when you announced the Science Museum trip, no better place for all souls to heal surrounded by the sound of children's laughter and discovery.
Early this morning, after a bike ride with Kaylee I drove past your house and Kaylee said I can tell Kai lives here by the blooming garden!
Enjoy the day. Margie

so that must be timmy von sherman, right?

LOVE that boy...
last sat eve while in my studio i was contemplating timmy & how he is ever as much your family as caleb, kai & max...and other things about him...then lisa yelled over to me that timmy had just called & she was headed over to your house to help him out with something...it all happend in the same moment...do do do do do do do do (twighlight zone melody playing in the background).
i think caleb must be responding intuitively to the fact that his altar now resides on a larger, more prominent piece of real estate in the center of town!!!
did he go on his water outing on the charles? if he did, can you fill in the details?
have fun @ the museum...mumsie von lindsay.

Hi Sharyn Von Lindsay,

I have good and bad to tell you today. The good is I'm glad you’re getting some time out today to get some fresh air etc... That's got to make you happy! I know for a fact Timmy Von Sherlock adores you and I'm sure he is smiling there with you and his buddies Caleb, Kai and Max.

The bad is I won't be able to visit the blog anymore when you are writing. I get the hives now when I read your posts. I can't believe things like that can happen in cyberspace! I will still check in when the guest bloggers are here though... Sorry things worked out this way....

Your friend,
Kevin

Now that Caleb is progressing, may I recommend a therapy that might help him with brain integration? My sister does this work and I've seen incredible things happen with it. She is not in MA, but I checked their website and see that there are practitioners in your state. It's called Brain Gym. Their website is http://www.braingym.org/. Different practioners have different areas of focus, but basically they stimulate/retrain the brain using natural movements, like cross-crawling. That's what we all did as kids and we were learning like crazy. It is simple, non-invasive, and really quite remarkable. Best of all, once you see/learn the techniques, you can work with Caleb on your own. They have some books that describe the techniques. No equipment required. He doesn't even need to be able to crawl.

It's lovely to think of fall in Boston and on the Cape. The smell of the earth, the sea, the breathtaking colors of the leaves. I remember gathering wild cranberries for Thanksgiving dinner when I lived there. I expect you will have a Thanksgiving that is felt to the core of your being this year.

You have every reason to be optimistic. One of my dear friends was seriously brain injured when hit by a truck when she was 50. She is now in her 80's, still a spitfire, and has been a tutor all these years. The outlook was bleak but she triumphed, just as your boy will.

A few weeks ago I ordered the biggest Pirate Flag I could find...I love coming home and finding it bravely waving in the fall breeze, just as I love coming home and finding out that Caleb is still going strong! I can't imagine the strength it takes for you but as a Mom (of girls) I like to think that it is in us all...for I believe that Moms are the true Pirates of the world, for we take what we can get when we can get it (simetimes at any means) and after all are asleep we still hold the course steady. Hearts and Argggs with You All! Peace

Pirate Queen Sharyn von Lindsay--

I think that 'von Lindsay' is completely awesome, and you should by all means rename your family as such. So glad to hear that Caleb's doing well and enjoying the lovely day! I can feel the good energy all the way across the river. Not to mention how many heads you probably turned in the Science Museum--gorgeous moms aren't their usual clientele!

It's wonderful that you all are getting some of your energy back. Keep resting, laughing, and loving, and Caleb will be back in the ocean soon.

Love,
Mia

Understand the "shrine" move but wish it were somewhere that could provide some space to look better. Never mind it having to be where it is. Needs space to sprawl!!!!!!

Greetings this morning to Sharyn Von Lindsay, Dear Caleb Von Potter, Kai Von Potter, Max Von Potter and Timilah Von Potter..also to Von Spudly,

WOW! What a beautiful family. How wonderful it is to have family around when one is feeling unsure, and unsettled. Families bring a sense of support, love, and awe to just about anything situation or scene. How lovely to be able to visit the Space Museum together, to get a facial, have a meal together, and feel the connection way down to your bones, and to be lifted by that experience. WE at times take that experience for granted. Seeing family through your eyes makes me relish the moments when I am in the presence of my kids, and YES, even my ex-husband (though I really have to continue to work on that one).

Living in gratitude, I believe, is a way of life. It means being grateful for what you had, for what you have, and for what you will have. I think it means, being grateful for those moments that fill your soul, as well as the moments that bring you to your knees.....without which we would not grow. Somewhere in there we find balance, balance that brings us to being grateful for all we have at every given moment, and the Grace to get through it.

SO, today I am grateful for ALL of you who are sharing this journey. The tender loving care I see shared every day through word, song, prose, spirit...it brings out the best in each and every one of us, and gives us great hope for tomorrow. We are all Blessed.

Thank you Senor Caleb Von Potter for sharing your journey with us. WE love you and yours, and hold you in Love and Light at all times...

In Love and Gratitude,

Melinda

how von derful that caleb is writing.....speech will become better and better... in time....lots of work for the ole boy.....a huge challenge....somewhat daunting ...but most certainly attainable....caleb is a stong spirit and will eventually reach his goals......perhaps some art therapy is in order...he's so creative...

sure opens up the door to the "control" issues of life...sharyn, you have certainly been thrown into the fire of life's uncertainty and ones noticable lack of control of all worldly and personal events.....surprise, surprise...I have a tendency to be a little bit of a control freak....I don't care for the grey areas of life...much prefer the black and white...although I know this is most unrealistic, on a daily basis, and has caused me anguish over the years...it's all about letting go...my friend, you've been a true inspiration for "letting go"....I take your thoughts and words to heart and am trying to do better in my own life...thank you....in the future when wishing for a particular outcome or random control of a random event....I'm just gonna' tell myself to "stop wearing my wishbone where my backbone oughtta' be"....I've discovered through your painful journey that control is based in fear.....so today , on this beautiful fall day...I'm gonna'... let go...and throw away all those dried up chicken wishbones hanging on the nail in my kitchen!.....and just trust...and live... and enjoy... love you, take care...and I'll be calling you soon about my guest blog....thanks again for being so honest... and... just being you...jodi

miss von lynsday,me again.i was just thiking about costa.do you remember when bags had gotten sick, and was down and out for a day or two?after the second day he came out and was feeling better, had a beer and smoked a ciggerbutt.we left and came back and you were there at our casa, unbeknownst to me he had gotten quickly ill again.i did something childish and had you so pissed you wouldn't talk to me.i ended up following to your casa, screaming at you, yelling at you and finally talking to you until by the time we got to your door i had gotten your forgiveness.i don't think i ever told you but when i got back to our place i was so happy that i pulled out the most serious face and told everyone that i had to go back to the u.s."why"i was asked.because i just punched sharyn in the face and she is going to cabono(that town i couldn't pronounce that had the bank)and was getting the police.caleb and kai jumped up and were going to throttle me and max was gaping at me with a wide eyed stare of disbelief.i kept it up for as long as i could, until i burst into laughter for a week.i think you would have been proud of me.sorry about my spelling.luv scro

Caleb- Glad to hear you're doing well. I was sitting here reading the blog and thought it may seem weird to you to have all these people thinking, praying, singing, swimming, working, loving, lighting candles, dancing, yelling, partying, thinking of you -sending you energy. I think the reason is because you give of yourself to all you meet. It's your goodness coming back around.Refuel-that juice will come in handy. Sharyn and Caleb, Thanks for being so gracious and open and showing us how to be in this world. Sending the whole clan a wave of joy. ann m
