On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Fleet bound!

I was just walking to Spaulding this morning counting down the days, hours, minutes till we return home. We are elated....
Yesterdays bike ride was marvelous! Caleb was perched out front on a tandem, big grin plastered on his face and a six foot rec. director on the back. I came behind on a oversized tricycle with giant basket attached which held my sporty patent leather, zebra bag and PT Christine followed on a Harley looking rig wearing blue scrubs and matching helmet. Man were we a sight! We rode for 6 mile and did I feel it - Caleb, however was in his element.
So ---- coming home! I will be calling Shaye, Sky and Jen prior to our leaving the hospital and perhaps the time could be posted on the blog. I will ask Shaye to film it for all of those who want to be here and can't. I will be packing up all of our belongings..the cards, beads, red lipstick, the pictures, the Yellowbeard oyster. I will be discarding all my fears, pain and tears from MGH and I will ferret the positive energy from Saulding nurses and therapists and we will be homeward bound - a beginning - a new beginning. Fabulous! What was a better sight in Boston yesterday - the von Potter/Lindsay parade or the Red Sox parade? I recently read a quote which resonated with me: "It is impossible to be melancholy while bicycling." Isn't that the truth! Can't wait for you to all to be back home!

Dear Sharyn and Caleb,

What a glorious post! I wish I could have seen you guys on your wheels! A wonderful new chapter begins on Saturday. I'm not sure if I can make it down to Fleet by noon but I'll do my best & in any event you'll definitely be foremost in my thoughts. (And regardless of where I am I'm going to break out a new red lipstick myself in honor of the occasion!) Sharyn, I'm here if and when I can be of help. Love to you both!

"Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of a joy you must have somebody to divide it with."

We,none of us, can know the grief you have experienced over the course of these last many months. But, be sure, this joy, your coming home, we know this, we feel it, it has divided and divided and divided...

Sharyn,
I've only met you and your family once. I have however, followed your blog and Caleb's recovery. Even as strangers the common denominator we have is that we love and are loved. It is impossible to read your blog without feeling the depth of your despair and the height of your joy. I have also spent much time caring for loved ones at hospitals in Boston, including Spaulding. I have been on the emotional roller coaster you've been riding. Now I am relieved and very happy for you and your family as well as the community of Wellfleet. This Thanksgiving will be a very special one for all of you.

Sharyn, I am SOOO happy for you and your family. This time I sit at my desk reading your blog with tears of true joy! I wish I could be there to witness that homecoming. I tried to convince my friend that is from Wellfleet and turned me onto this story to say,"let's blow off the weekend and fly to The Cape"! She wouldn't take......sigh! I can feel the tingling, bustling and gittiness (if that is a word) down here! I will continue to pray for Caleb's healing! And if someone is making additional signs please include Michelle and Becky !

This story only gets more beautiful with every passing day.
autumnal bike rides, small seaside town homecoming parades,
It really could be the script of a beautiful and inspiring film.
I,d love to cast it!
Who would you like to play you Susan Sarandon or Meryl Streep?
LOL
But seriously Have a wonderful week and we who can not be present will all be there in spirit on Saturday.
so on Saturday At Noon
with Palms together,
I will honor the light within Caleb
and his homecoming.

Dear Sharyn:

I now truly believe in miracles...after reading the full description of exactly what happend to Caleb...the long and winding road home has finally straightened out..our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you make your journey home and reacclimate back in to your awesome life in Wellfleet...Please put our names on the Cybersign as well...selfishly I will miss reading the daily updates but am thrilled that the next chapter of Caleb's healing is beginning...as it has been said many times on this blog...this would be a great "feel good" movie and it restores faith in all of us who have been touched by this story of Caleb that there are still caring respectful people in this world from the doctors who saved his life, nurses who saved yours and his life, therapists, friends, family and us strangers out here in Cyberspace...I will sign off now with a big smile and I am off to take my 10 (pirate-daughter) trick or treating...Peace and love

Anyone who reads this blog regularly who has been a longtime U2 fan (there must be one or two of you?!) will understand that since I first read of the impending return of Caleb and Sharon to Wellfleet, one song has been in my head while reading all the news and blogs about it: at the very end of "A Sort of Homecoming",off of An Unforgettable Fire, Bono sings, "..For at last I am coming home. I am coming home." Enjoy crossing the bridge - we all do it and we all experience a moment when we do. Signed, Swiss (old friend of all Landons - Tom, Peg, Pete...)

I had a short roadside visit with a friend yesterday, whose baby was in a skunk costume - very cute. I got to thinking about who else I had seen in a skunk costume and that's right, it was Caleb. It must have been Caleb's first Halloween and Sharon had him bundled up in a little skunk costume, cute as can be. I just remember how delighted Sharon was with it and just how adorable Caleb looked. What he will do to entertain his mother!

Saturday will be here before you know it. Welcome home - it has been a long time coming! Ashley

Hello Miss.Sharyn,
Happy Belated Halloween!!! Yesterday was so hectic that I was unable to even read the blog, nevermind write. Did you have fun? Did they spruce-up Spaulding for the Holiday? Halloween really can be a great Holiday if a little effort is put in.

We went to the Potter/Lindsay compound as our last stop of the night lastnight. We saw Timmala, Max, and Spudly...:) My Son was....you guessed it....a PIRATE!!! DUH! THAT WAS A NO BRAINER.....Hahahaha. Some people asked him who he was last night and we told them, "Caleb Potter"..LOL! Caleb didn't have the typical 3 yr old pirate costume on...He looked so cool! He had a really nice, thick black Polo shirt on with Jolly-Rogers all over it, Black corderoys, a black and white pirate bandana, and the best cloth pirate hat from the Pickard's store...He looked so good that they took a picture of him at the mall last night(for the "Safe-Trick-or-Treat")and told me to look in the Cape Codder, or Banner to see if his pic was in there this week. So needless to say, his 1st REAL Halloween was pretty great!

We can't wait for you guys to come home in a couple of days....Missed you at you house lastnight....but THOSE DAYS ARE ALL OVER! Back to the normalcy of Wellfleet once again, and ALL holidays from now on will be wonderful with you all here.

Bye for now...See you Saturday! :)

Hey Timmy! Thank you so much for the offer of a sign--that's awesome! I would like to meet you too! If I can come I will look for you since your picture was on the pumpkin carving posting. Also I have 3 dogs who go just about everywhere with us so maybe they would like to meet Spud (and we also have 3 pygmy goats, thus the name goatlady..). Right now I am not sure if I can make it in time since I had previously promised to give a friend who is recovering from major surgery a ride somewhere from 8-9, and it is usually around a 3-hour ride from my house to Fleet, but I'll do my best...and if I can't be there you guys will be in my heart, and please cheer extra loud for me, and if you can do the sign it sounds like there is a groundswell for it from the cyber family!

Sharyn and Caleb, I am so thrilled for both of you. What a long strange trip it has been! Every time we drove by Long Pond and saw that pirate flag at your driveway, I wondered, How long until she gets to bring him home? And now you are less than 48 hours away. Enjoy every minute.

Oh, and add me to the Cyber sign also.

I live in a small town in Texas but will be with you all in spirit tomorrow as you welcome Caleb home.
