On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Happy Halloween

Caleb is now walking on his own! Caleb is talking more and more clearly. He still has issues with memory and sequencing and his mind still sees things which are not there..but they are all good things - like food. All in all, he is rapidly moving forward.
Kai and Lizzy are here and we had a lovely evening out at a beautiful Persian Restaurant to toast to Dennis (who was with us) for turning over his home to me for so many months this summer...and to celebrate Caleb's homecoming. It was so wonderful to be surrounded by such beautifully, positively, handsome people.
Today's activity when Judith, Max and Timmy arrive will be pumpkin carving..something we have done together since the boys were little. Max, although he never considers himself as artistic as Caleb and Kai, always manages to carve the coolest one (we all agree).
Shaye and I have the possibility of re-ordering tees and hoodies and I would want to know how many of you are really interested in having one --I will soon post sizes and costs and perhaps you could let me know right away so we can get going on this. Also on my mind is.. when next summer would be the very best time for a meeting of the minds who got me through this - one big party at the Long Pond homestead is in order! Perhaps when you make your comments this week you could included the month or week that you are here in the summer and we could co-ordinate so that most of you would already be here - the rest can arrive by gondola, carriage, dog sled, Chinese junket or whatever! I am so excited about this!
So last night we were celebrating because --- you better have your flags ready - Caleb is traveling home this coming Saturday!!!!!! Yes - a week from today! Yahoooooooooo!!!! Would it be possible to get a glimpse of you on town lawn as we travel back into Fleet for the first time in four months? I was thinking we could just stop briefly and wave from the car before we settle into our new life of healing from home. This would be a good way to show Caleb that you are still there with him, as we all know you are. I will give you more details as the week passes and for now - I am going out for my Latte with coco topping! mumsie is overjoyed..

Yes!!! I am soo pumped for Caleb to get back to the home front. I just want to thank you again for having us up there. It meant soooo much to me to be able to see him and take it all in. You are, as always, an incredible person! I get your request about keeping a distance from the home front. I am on call for anything whenever.( Well, I gues, before Christmas that is when I take off for the winter) I am sure you are aware of that and have the help and support of many but what ever I can do to help; massages, yoga, landscaping, house cleaning, exercise partner... what ever! It is truly a grift to have you in my life and I want to give back to the both of you.. it makes me feel amazing, so it's a win win. So don't hesitate to ask. We still want to do the blog thing, I am waiting for our busy freind Althea to get the pictures to me so i can send them off to Sky... There isn't much time for it so i will make it happen. Love you and everyone sooooooooooooooooooooo MUCH!

Sharyn- Yes, yes, yes, whenever-always . Caleb- keep up the good work reconnecting with yourself and all that is a part of your world- that grows ever wider. You are so fortunate to have such a wonderful place for healing - and those around you to have the opportunity to know your strength and enthusiasm for living in the moment.

I forgot to say, I want a sweetshirt for my sister who has taken mine over. I think I got a small, but she is only 5'2" so I think a small will be good for her.
And party time any time! If it is this coming summer, any time after April10th.
Love ya again,

Hey Mum,
SO ECSTATIC!!! We would LOVE to be there on "The Lawn" for Caleb's homecoming. That will be one of the biggest highlights of my year. And, I think that it would be great to have that party on July 4th..."Celebrating Caleb" on the day that we all thought that we might loose him might bring a little cheer back to that Holiday. Plus, ALOT of people are around that time of year, so it would be convenient as you mentioned.

Last night Amy, Shannon, Leah, and I all went to Arturo's in Eastham for their Halloween Party all dressed to the nines in our costumes...Full makeup....The works! Well on the way we stopped to get Jonah....Plain jeans, a CALEB/PIRATE HOODIE, and that's about it. When we asked him what he was supposed to be, he said,"BAM", and lifted his arms...Hahaha, he sewed bat wings into the Caleb Hoodie...It was cute! Tell Caleb he has a bat as part of his fan club now...lol :)

Oh, and last, but not least....GOOD LUCK having your pumpkin carving session later...I'm sure that will be interesting with all the boys...hehehe. PLEASE take, and post some pictures if you get the chance. I think that I've only see Chris/Judi carve a pumpkin once....Should be fun! :)

Love and hugs to YOU, Mum!!!!

Seven days and counting......What a turn-around from a little over a month ago when the outlook was not so rosy......an incredible testament to the power of love, collective prayer, Caleb's fighting spirit, and his will to survive. I am overwhelmed by a profound feeling of warmth and gladness on this rainy, chilly October day. What a lovely gift...
Thank you for the invite next summer,I will be so glad to come up for such a grand celebration! I am always on the Cape in late July, but I would drop everything at any time to make my way up and take part in a huge group hug, with Caleb in the center!
As always, with hope,

Hi Sharyn!
Like so many other readers, you don't know me, but I've become so captivated by this blog. I just wanted to say thank you for beauty, strength, and courage to post as much as you have. The pictures from the Cape Cod times blew my mind. I especially loved the ones of you and Caleb. It brought me to tears to see the love and bond that spoke volumes between you two. Those pictures say it all...
I wish Caleb the best of luck in a speedy recovery. He's already come a long way in a short time. Your awesome Caleb!

Goodmorning!!
Amazing and long awaited news!!!
I am thrilled for Caleb, you and your whole family. Getting home and back to your lives is better medicine than anything else!!
I knew what Caleb was made of as i read what a rough road he had during the first month(s) of his fight - with his spirit and you at his side - I just knew in my gut that he would win this battle!!

So - yes, this family would LOVE to buy some Hoodies if more are made available. We were at our first Oyster Fest LAST year, and would have LOVED to be able to be this year, but illness in our own family did not permit.
We would love to be able to hit Wellfleet next August wearing our Caleb gear!:) Please let us know how to make that happen!
We are always in Wellfleet the 2 last weeks of August.......with some luck, we will be able to make this most special celebration!!
Congrats again, wishing you a smooth and joyous homecoming -

Nancy in NY

Sharyn, i've been reading all along and supporting from afar since I'm not that close to you or Caleb, but we're overjoyed at the news that everything is going so well, and can't wait to have you back in fleet. I am definately interested in sweatshirts and t shirts, i missed the boat at oysterfest, but would gladly buy one now, and I'm sure others would too. Your good news is the talk of the town! Thanks for your positive voice through all of this, you are one amazing family. Thanks and good luck,

So it is Halloween and the swarms of trick or treaters have kept us very busy all night, when after a bit of a lull, we hear another knock. We answer the door and standing there all alone is a tiny pirate, black hat, eye patch, sword in one hand, loot sack in the other.
"Trick or treat," he says.
I say, "Hey little pirate man, where are your buccaneers?"
"Right here," he says, "On the sides of my buccing head."

Happy Halloween Caleb and family! I am so happy for you all! It's the Halloween Homecoming Miracle we've all been waiting for. God Bless!

Next Saturday I will be on the lawn at Town Hall and I will bring all of the people who blog here with me, in my heart. As I have carried you all in my heart since July when this journey began. Caleb and Mumsie are coming home, and we will all give thanks for the miracle that we were privileged to bear witness to.

May you all be happy and peaceful.

I hope for the best for you all and will miss your beautiful smile and much needed input here at Spaulding. I would like two t-shirts(one for me and one for Courtney) so what ever size you think would be good for her(5'8") and probably a med. or large for me. I don't know how stretchy they are. See you at Spaulding before you go.

Truly Amazed. What a fighter that Caleb is, a true pirate down to the very last bone! It is a wonderful thing to have Caleb treking back home this coming Saturday. I will be with you all in spirit; I'll have to have my own celebration out here in Hawai'i welcoming Caleb back home. What a sweet, sweet feeling! :) I missed O-fest this year so I missed the shirts and I would LOVE ONE!!! :) Can't wait to be back in Fleet myself for the holiday season, hopefully our paths will cross. You truly do inspire me every day and I thank you and the boys for that! :)

Yes I want hoodies and tees AND bracelets! I would love to get hoodies for my whole family. Larger sizes for Mom and Dad and kids size 5or 6 for my son. If you have any baby ones I would love that too! the website cafepress.com allows you to create and sell designs for a variety of shirts/hoodies/other stuff. But I have no idea how you make money from it. Someone should check it out!
Keep us posted.
Hurray Caleb!!!!! We are so happy that you are headed home.

Fantastic news this Halloween weekend! I feel your joy all the way across the country.

One thought on the T-shirts, etc. How about selling them on EBay? They could handle the ordering and financial transactions for you. All you'd need to do is put on your red lipstick, pour a glass of wine for everyone at the table, and package them up. They will make excellent Christmas presents!

Ethan says he'll be at the party next summer if he has to crawl all the way there.

I agree with a celebration gathering on July 4th. What better way to celebrate this miracle. I would also suggest whenever this get together is, we take a collection and sent it to MGH and Spaulding to thank them for returning Leb to Fleet.

Just weeks ago my family and I were checking this blog obsessively, fearing the worst. What amazing, wonderful news this is! Sharyn, you are the most incredible inspiration to me as a mother. Caleb's spirit and determination are equally astonishing, but a person can't do that alone. He knew what he had to come back to ... a family like no other and all the love and support of a wonderful town.

I am so thrilled for you!
