Girlfriend update!!

funny faces!!!!

I was up in Boston this past Monday and Tuesday and had a great time. I look forward to seeing Caleb from the moment I leave on tuesday till the next Monday. It was our 3 year- 4 month anniversary and I was soo excited to be able to be with Caleb on our special day. Caleb is gaining weight and eating really well. For lunch today, he had roast beef, carrots salad and soup. He really loves to eat, and when he is finished with his meal, he looks at all of our plates for more. And if you know Caleb or any of the Potter boys, they will eat all your food off your plate if you don't want it. ..in seconds. Caleb feeds himself with a spoon and fork and tries to mix everything, because that is what he has seen us doing when we feed him..( that was when he was eating all pureed food). On Tuesday, he started mixing his dessert custard in with his salad, but then he quciky realized what we was doing and stopped. When I visit Caleb, we cant get enough of each other, we cant stop kissing, we hold hands all the time and snuggle and nap everytime I go up there. We flew paper airplanes around his bed, and he smiled so big. Yes, our Caleb is smiling and it is so beautiful. Next time I am up there, I will take a pictures of it, because it will bring tears to your eyes.
On tuesday, he was put into this crazy aparatus, which teaches him how to walk again, but it does the work for him. It holds up his weight with a harness around his waist, and these robot legs go over his legs. They move by a computer and simulate walking. It is the coolest thing to watch, and they put a mirror infront of him, so that he can watch himself. This machine will teach Caleb what it feels to walk and build up muscle without him even trying. Caleb is building up strength and I see it most when he is getting in his wheelchair. Even last week, Caleb would be dead weight in the nurses arms and he would have to be lifted into his chair, but that has changed. Now he stands with help and moves his legs around really well to get into the chair and puts his hands back and sits with help.
I wanted to make this short and sweet but I feel like there is so much I can write. Caleb is also tries to talk alot. He mostly lips words because he is still learning how to breath while he speaks. Be when I am with him whispers sweet things in my ears. I love it. I miss his voice soo much, and It sounds exactly the same. Okay, I am going to sign off on this note....When I was leaving, Caleb wanted to come in the hall to come say bye to me and we kissed goodbye and he whispered something to me. He said....."Thanks for helping me." I love this kid!!!!

Caleb,
I love to picture you helping yourself in and out of the wheelchair. That's a great image. What progress!!

It's hard to believe it's only been three months. THIS IS GREAT. I think if anyone were laid up in bed for three months (WITHOUT injury), we would have a hard time walking again too.

Don't get discouraged. . .it's ONLY three months dude and your hanging. Who gives a shit how long it takes to walk or talk, as long as YOU and your personality are in there. It's just so special that you are even here man!! Dig?

Now get your ass home, I'll carry ya'

POWER OF A KISS: MEDICS TALK
> Pravda
> April 9, 2004
>
> http://english.pravda.ru/science/19/94/377/12469_kiss.html
>
> It's been scientifically proven that frequent kissing stabilizes
cardiovascular activity, decreases high blood pressure, cholesterol and
overall makes one's life better. The following is a medical account of
this
quite pleasant activity.
>
> Dentistry
>
> Kissing can substitute any chewing gum that fights plaque and cavity.
The
thing is, this occupation, namely kissing, is capable of preventing
cavities, similar to toothpaste. Such phenomenon can be explained in
the
following way. Kissing stimulates profuse salivation which helps
protect
one's teeth from cavity, since it contains calcium and phosphorus. In
addition, passionate kissers are less likely to suffer from gingivitis.
Also, saliva becomes neutral in the course of a kiss thus preventing
teeth
from a number of diseases.
>
> Cosmetics
>
> A passionate kiss causes tensions in more than 30 facial muscles. It
helps
to smooth out skin and increase blood circulation. Perhaps, it is
better to
kiss then use various creams and apply masks? Kissing would surely be
more
> pleasant!
>
> Diet
>
> We lose no less than 12 calories during every passionate kiss.
However,
one does not have to be a love fanatic to lose a few extra pounds.
Scientists claim that 3 kisses a day (20 seconds each) will be enough
to
make you lose an entire extra pound.
>
> Anesthetic
>
> The so-called endorphin hormone serves as an anesthetic. The more
passionate the kiss, the more endorphin is being secreted. One kiss is
enough to secrete a sedative dose of these hormones, which in fact
exceeds a
minimal dose of morphine.
>
> Also, another interesting aspect of kissing deals with antibiotics.
In the
course of a kiss, natural antibiotics are being secreted in saliva.
They
also possess anesthetic effect. Simply forget about painkillers and
kiss,
kiss, kiss!
>
> Anti-stress therapy
>
> A kiss prevents the initial formation of stress
hormones-glucocorticoids.
These are the exact hormones to be blamed for high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, muscle weakening, and insomnia. Generally, a kiss can calm
down
one's nervous system quite effectively and rid oneself of stress. That
is
why those who enjoy kissing are often optimists.
>
> In addition, kissing triggers massive adrenaline rush, which battles
stress hormone hydrocortisone and grants us cheerful mood.
>
> Finally, at least three kisses a day leave you in a romantic,
pleasant
mood for no less than 24 hours.
>
> Vaccination
>
> Our saliva contains the most bacteria. About 80% of them are the same
in
all people. Nearly 20% of them are unique in every human being. Upon
mixing
with other particles in the partner's mouth, they trigger various
reactions
of microorganisms. As a result, this gives one's immune system an
impulse to
form certain antibodies. Scientifically speaking, this process is
termed
cross-immunotherapy.
>
> Express analysis of genetic compatibility
>
> This is no exaggeration! While you are kissing, your brain conducts
instant chemical analysis of your partner's saliva and issues a
"verdict" of
your genetic compatibility. That's why do not take long until the first
kiss. It is better to establish your compatibility right from the
start.
>
> Overall, kissing has an incredibly positive effect on the organism.
Those
who kiss quite frequently are less likely to suffer from stomach,
bladder,
blood infections. Also, you can rid yourself of hiccups by means of --
you
guessed it -- kissing!

That's wonderful, Jennie! :)

You know, I am incredibly proud of you...Being there through all of this for Caleb takes alot of courage, and strength. And I'm sure that you think, "Sure, anyone would do the same", but that is NOT true. Many people would bail in a citualtion as stressful as this, and you are a phenominal person for helping him, working with him; LOVING HIM!!! Your love, along with all the Potter/Lindsay Clan is what is getting him through all this with that SMILE that you said he had.

I love you, and PLEASE call as often as you'd like, and let us know if you need anything AT ALL!

Nicole, Little Leb, and Judi :)

From the von Lees on Sapokonish Way

von Jennie, Love your blog today. Just a few weeks ago, our grandsons were visiting. They are about the ages of Caleb and Kai when they moved into the Wigwam for a summer before their new house was built. Well, the grandsons were being typical little boys and goofing off when I made a paper airplane and flew it into the house. Like, where did that come from. With all their tonka trucks and other toys to play with, it was these paper airplanes that they spent the rest of the day making and flying. It is the simple things in life that make the best memories.

von Caleb, keep up the good work. While success can be measured in many ways, your own success in rehab will reflect the true promise that you make to yourself about your future. Dream for the future and turn it into a reality. God Bless all your family and extended families and those you love. Hugs Natale

Jennifer,
Your blog today was wonderful. I'm so happy to hear about Caleb's progress and the special moments both of you share during your visits.

You've been so incredibly strong during the past few months. Your level of committment and your ability to stay levelheaded is so admirable.

As your mother, I'd like to say that I am so very proud of you and I could never have asked for a better daughter.

I love you and I hope that Caleb comes home to you soon.

he whispered something to me. He said....."Thanks for helping me." I love this kid!!!!

That pretty much sums it up.

Caleb - thoughtful enough to whisper a thank you when most able bodied adults find it so hard to say in every day life.

Jennie - so in love and devoted to
Caleb that even strangers can feel it.

Caleb, keep smiling!
Jennie, nice post - Thank You!

jennie,
amazing love stories are written all the time about tragedy and healing by the unconditional love of a mate.
They are written to inspire and give hope to us........your bloggs reach so far beyond those fabricated stories, since you share with us your
real life love and triumphs....
Thank you for that.
.........let me end with a line from an under rated Beatles song,

"and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make"

my goodness...
oh how my heart aches & is joyful all at once this early morning.
i SHOULD be out in my studio but have been magnetized to review this blog.
WOW...
there is SOOOO much here. the pulse of each one of us seperatly and all together.
so funny, i read a comment about the altar being moved & it was signed:
T.W.G.B.E.
most will NEVER know what that means, however i remember when the acronym was coined back in the 70's, while i was a student at nauset. tho i was a brewster girl i had a MUCH older wellfleet boyfriend...he & his hood coined it, though let it be known!!! we did not know each other in that way!!! it made me laugh to see it today!
that is one tiny slice of the flood of words here...one sliver of our selves.
this blog will stand as a focus of grace for each of us, in honor of the love we share. nothing could be more beautiful...
ALL in honor of the Von Pirates.
ALL in the hope & prayer & thanks of our dear pirate lad.
Caleb, Jennie, Mumsie, Kai, Liz, Max, & JanVon everything...we love you all & hold you in our hearts.

To blogger Rachael,
Just catching up on this blog and have to ask, what happened to you, Rachael? You've written several times about your ongoing treatment that has been going on for almost 23 yrs (which I can't begin to imagine)... I'm not a "fleetian" (although somewhere along the line someone vehemently corrected that term and said it was "fleeter", not "fleetian" - hmmmm - does that mean Martians are really Marters????)
So, if you don't mind sharing, I'm quite curious to know... sending healing thoughts & prayers to you as well as Caleb...

Jennie.. these quotes I came across remind me of you and Caleb, especially right now, thanks for the inspiration, and love you share with us.

" To be loved, and love is to feel the sun shine from both sides."

"It is love that makes the impossible, possible."
