A BIG Thank You
In this season of giving thanks and celebrating family togetherness, I wish to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has been involved in a myriad of ways with my son, Caleb Potter, and his recovery. On July 4, he was involved in a skateboarding accident in our little hometown of Wellfleet on Cape Cod, that caused him serious injuries. He came home from Spaulding Rehab in Boston just before Thanksgiving. Through the blog we started:

...that's right lad! it's time to get the hell out of there and back to wellfleet! just wait 'till you can smell that sweet fleet air and walk through the woods to spectacle with spud by your side. your brain will be flowing through all it's processes in no time!

A very nice piece. It captures Caleb's remarkable spirit that has helped fuel his comeback, Sharyn's pit-bull-like ferocity and lover and the enormous amount of compassion and support of their family, friends and extended community.

I don't know about the rest of you but my family is really starting to be concerned about seeing me sitting in front of the computer weeping AGAIN! Very moving article and pictures.
....fantastic article -- thought the facts were correct which is not always the case in newspapers--I thought the article was very poignant--and told it lke it was and is..what will be, well that is the next miraculous adventure...sharing the ride by the Lindsay/Potter families thusfar was very courageous on the part of your families as this really was intensively personal. thank you...
That was a very uplifting piece on not only Caleb of course, but Sharyn as well. It shows you, Sharyn have literally been there, living and breathing with & sometimes for Caleb. You are indeed fierce, compassionate, and just as stubborn as Caleb is for gettin through this all... thanks to that, for it is when being tough can really benefit a situation.

I keep thinking about Caleb and his "errant" words...mostly having to do with food. Is it possible that because of his injury that he is super sensitive to smells...and imagines foods associated with those smells?

You may note that the Times in an unprecedented fit of accuracy referred to my brother, not by name, but as one of a group of "waitresses."
I just finished reading the article on Caleb's recovery. My husband and I rode our motorcyles to Provincetown (from our home in Centerville) in early July and noticed the signs about praying for Caleb. I did pray even though I didn't know much about him or the circumstances surrounding the need for prayer. 10 days after his accident, I was seriously injured in an accident while riding my motorcycle. My injuries were pretty bad, but I am recovering and, thankfully had no head injuries. I continue to pray for Caleb and his family and friends. I was so happy to see the quote by Caleb's Mom: "Life, if lived fully, is full of risk and bulging with the unknown." This is so true. I hope to ride my motorcyle again some day and I hope and pray that Caleb is able to do the things that make him feel like he is fully living. Peace and love to you, Leila
Caleb and Sharyn, Thanks for showing the way to live fully in the presence of fear...to go thru the fear to embrace joy- knowing we are a part of all. My son told me at age 9, courage is acting in the face of fear- knowing there are risks- but moving forward all the same. This you have both demonstrated. At one of the prayer circles early on I brought a song to sing for various birthday boys, (Cedar and Max amongst others) and sent it out to you, Caleb. I don't have the source but the words sing out today as the sun shines over the water- "long time sun"

The notion of Caleb being able to return to Wellfleet makes me feel really good! Won't be able to be there on Saturday but flags will be waving. This has been a remarkable journey, first for Bill and Sharyn, then for Kai, Max and Jan, and all the Wellfleet friends, then for those of us in Town who are supporters, and also for all the blog people. We are really one and the job Sky has done has made that happen!
Some of us who love oysters would like to know how to get in touch with Richard so we can eat Caleb's oysters.

How good it feels to cry tears of joy! I'd like to thank Sharyn for the tremendous gift she has given all of us who have followed Caleb's recovery. I am a far away sister she has never meet, yet in her words I have seen my own motherhood more clearly...and beyond mothering, my own humanity. I have seen my own doubts and fears as well as my greatest hopes and dreams in her words. The honesty and intimacy of her writing, as well as her humor, are rare treasures. There is the stuff of legends and myth here, the hero's journey for a son and the heroine's journey of a mother. Thank you, Sharyn. Safe journey HOME........
