On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

There are times in your life when all things seem good, and this day is one of them. The cat stayed out all night and fought off the coyotes single handedly, the humidity is down and the MGH. nurses are here. I have been waiting for this visit since the invitation was put forth. Toasting them at a table full of friends, and sitting under the canopy stars at Mac's Shack, I found myself saying " The doctors may have saved Caleb, but these nurses saved mine.." And that is the truth! These young women are dedicated, kind, thoughtful, professional, funny at the right times, and on top of that they are luscious and bodacious. The boys of the beach who gave them all a successful surf lesson yesterday joked about why it really was that Caleb pulled through with this staff peering over him!
We are off sailing today with a cooky professor/sailor friend of mine and then a trip down the streets of PTowne should top off the night.
I am learning to look toward the directions that bring joy. Sounds so simple, but each day I find myself strolling back toward sadness and prying into pain. But now I find I am able to pay more attention to my emotions which vividly act as the barometer to my present moment........ and I am learning to choose differently, just by paying attention and switching my focus.
Today I am grateful for life, for my children, for my well being, for my ability to be joyous and sad, for all of life's lesson which nudge me forward, for all of the people who walk with me ....and for Caleb's lovely nurses. Bless you.

Good Morning Sharyn!

Great post - you sound happy and like you're in a good place -finding the good in things and smiling at them. Caleb's nurses sound wonderful and it must be SO nice to have them visit!
Life's road takes us places we could never have thought we'd go....sometimes the journey is wildly GOOD - sometimes, unspeakably awful.....the key to keeping on the road and walking through the good and the bad, are remembering to keep our loved ones in sight and follow the light!!
The nurses, the sail boat ride, the cat keeping off the coyotes...the sunshine, the ocean, Caleb's smile.....that's the light -stay with it!!!
More love and light from NY -
Nancy

Four or five days after each posting, I begin to anticipate your next one... and when it stretches into 5 or 6 days, I begin to wonder if that's a sign of pleasant times, better times. Like you, I await FOR you, longer and longer stretches of good and plenty.

This morning's post is particularly touching as you pay homage to the healers with food, fanfare and good times. I am very sure that these wondrous people are as buoyed up and enhanced by you and your family as you have been by them, their loyalty and their art. There's no doubt but that it often evolves into a fluid and mutually enhancing experience between healer and patient, such that the line that initially distinguishes one from the other gradually disappears, giving way to a natural and organic flow of mutual admiration, learning, holding, nourishment and buoyancy.

I am certain that your gratitude for the guidance and extraordiary care of the nurses is a match to the gratitude they feel for you and your family and your art for living.

Enjoy the time together this weekend and look forward to the constancy of the tie that binds you all together forever!

How I miss our garden chats lady!!! It was so nice to see you out last night, looking radiant as usual, and surrounded by so many good folk.. and how nice to be able to meet the young women who took such loving care of caleb...thank you, you foxy nurses!! I too think that may have had a little something to do with Caleb doing so very well up there...he is, after all, a dirty pirate!!

My Dear Sharyn,

Please remember that you are never alone, and that "intention" has so much to do with our walk with you, Caleb, Kai and Max and all your loved ones, with each and every thought that comes your way. That is how we stay connected, and you are all showing such strength, love and gratitude, that one can only smile very largely when reading your posts.

I'm glad that those who helped bring about healing are having the opportunity to spend time with you all on your turf.....lovely for all!

Mari and I have been away much of the last month, but please know that we do carry you all with us, wherever we are, and thoughts of continued healing abound....from your writing, I can see that they have reached you all.

We are all CONNECTED.....Blessings,

Be well,

In Love and Light,

Melinda and Mari

Sharyn- Nice finally getting to meet you at the parade.

Perhaps your cat had help...our cat, Grey, was also missing last night. I always breathe a sigh of relief when the day dawns and he calls me to the door to come in, eat and crash. Do you think all the night-time Fleet cats team up unbenownst to us to do battle with the coyotes? Are they wielding little swords? Are they Pirate cats?

Kind of reminds me of Caleb...doing battle on his own but backed up by you, the family, the town, the bodacious nurses... whether he knows it or not. There you are, fending off all dangers for the sake of the Pirate.

Wasn't the wind something else today?

Sharyn,

I thought at first the cat that stayed out all night was going to be you! Oh well, I still liked the story...

Did you go to Shop Therapy when you went to Provincetown? Just curious....

Also, I've got a bad hang nail...Could you send the MGH nurses over to the Liquor Store ASAP...

Hi Sharyn!
Nice to see you have contact with the nurses who helped Caleb and you through the toughest times! We will be making our journey up to Wellfleet in August and I hope to run into you and to finally meet you in person! I have been following this since we were up there last summer and I have to say...what a year makes!! God Bless! By the way, how is Caleb's girlfriend, Jenny, doing? Haven't seen her on here for awhile. Take care!

Sharyn,

That is a great, uplifting post- what you wrote about looking for things to feel good about is true, and hard to get a handle on. It would be incredible to see a collage of all the people who have stayed at your house at one point or another. We're coming to Wellfleet for next week and will be nearby. We'll get in touch with you soon,

Neil

Hey Sharyn,

Well it sounds as 'tho the visit from the nurses is just what the Dr.ordered!!!!!!!!!!! Pun intended.

I'm sure it brought back a multitude of emotions (to be expected)and it must have been wonderful for them to see Caleb's progress over the last few months.

The wonderful thing is that you are all together---different in some ways but together. May the sun always shine brightly on you and your boys.

I look forward to seeing you in Oct.

With best wishes and love,
Penny

I, too, wonder how Jenny is doing. Is she still in school for nursing? She wrote some beautiful posts about her beloved Caleb.

It was nice to meet the MGH nurses the other night at The Juice. I have always pictured these nurses as angels but must admit I envisioned more matronly angels. As we were walking away my husband said "wow, Caleb's nurses are f*&@ing hot!"
Thanks you guys for taking such good care of Caleb and family. Glad you were able to make it to Wellfleet for a visit.
