Caleb's Nurses Visit Wellfleet
Thank you to Cortney, May and Corey for sharing these photos of your visit last week. It was great to have you ladies in Fleet. Hope you'll head back this way soon!
What a nice looking group in that last picture! Did they actually get out there and surf? They did an amazing job in helping Caleb, I'm thrilled they were able to visit you guys!!!
Wow!!!!What a wonderfully brilliant picture of your boys, and these gracious, gutsy ladies. Everybody looks well sunned, relaxed and enjoying life.
And Sharyn, hope you too enjoyed their company. It's so great that they were able to come and really partake of you and you're family, in every sense. How SPECIAL!
Life is quite busy here in W MA, but looking forward to vaca in Boothbay Hbr in a few weeks. Mari has been down your way in Dennis visiting one of her Aunts. Don't know when she will be home.....oh well, 15 going on 30. Sure they are all having a grand time.
Special "HI" to Caleb, we think of you often, and hope you are having an awesome summer. Kai and Max, you guys are looking very happy and laid back...taking it easy. You surely deserve that too!
Ok my friends, take really good care. Know that we think of you all often.....Wishing you all the best the summer has to offer....
Thanks for the flicks. It looks like a blast. Reminds me of what a slacker I am that I haven't sent my photos to you yet. I made a DVD for Caleb in the i-life class I took last week. I was waiting to send it out to you guys until I made a cover, but there was an unexpected death in my family and that has taken me off track for now. I will send it soon even without a fancy cover. I miss you guys. Hope to get back up there soon. Until then know that I'm thinking about you all!
I have followed this blog since Caleb’s accident and have continually wished for the best for him and for the family. I am a PT Cape resident, and a nurse, and have been especially moved by the ways in which this blog has been used to create community and support, even among those who do not know this family firsthand. I have even pointed this out to others in my field as an example of how this use of internet can play a role in patient and family/community recovery. (I know this family in a quite second-hand manner, having known Jan a bit.) I have also appreciated much of Sharyn’s writing. But I write today because I am really dismayed by the very inappropriate focus on the physical appearance, and even the sexualizing as “hotties” of Caleb’s professional nurses. In nursing, these depictions of nurses have served to deprofessionalize and demean our profession for some time, and it has been a constant struggle to take the creepy sexualization of nurses out of the public eye and relegate it to other attitudes of ignorance and oppression that belong buried in the past, back before women had access to true professions. The times when I have cringed at this blog have been when, instead of connecting about the deeply human qualities of those close to Caleb, much has been made of how “good looking”, and thereby worthy, those in this circle of truly good people are. It has irked and annoyed, but the new emphasis on nurses as babes has pushed me to comment. Especially with Jennie entering nursing (and I wish her the best of luck), please stop and think about this, no matter how well-intended the comments are.
I'm sorry that ck is offended by the comments. I think we all agree that despite how the girls look, Caleb and Sharyn were well taken care of at MGH, and they both apprectiate how much was done for them by the WHOLE STAFF. Looks aren't everything, it is what you have inside that counts, and most of the time that radiates to the outside as well. Again sorry if the comments offended, but you have to admit, everyone on this blog has great beauty from the inside to the outside, Sharyn being the biggest of them all.
Please feel free to add your comments to the blog. All you have to do is click on the number of comments at the bottom of one of the postings. Then write your comment in the box provided on the right side of the screen. Thank you to all of you who have been commenting so far; we're creating quite the community on here! Be well...
A BIG Thank You
In this season of giving thanks and celebrating family togetherness, I wish to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has been involved in a myriad of ways with my son, Caleb Potter, and his recovery. On July 4, he was involved in a skateboarding accident in our little hometown of Wellfleet on Cape Cod, that caused him serious injuries. He came home from Spaulding Rehab in Boston just before Thanksgiving. Through the blog we started: http://calebpotter.blogspot.com/ the Wellfleet community of support stretched far and wide across the country, and in fact, throughout parts of the world, with many people offering prayers and words of wisdom. We could not have come so far without this legion of support from all of you, in Wellfleet and beyond. We are sincerely grateful.
