On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

The Fourth

The Pirate Route will be :

Jumping in on Holbrook about half-way between the Pier (which is where the parade begins) and Main. Continuing down Main through town.. down to the boat , turning back on Commercial as far as the Juice. I will be in front of Kevin's Spirit's Shoppe with Kevin as I always am. For those of you wanting info on the parade - the old cars start around 9:30..the parade starts at 10- but it really is always about 10:30. However since Fleet is small and they close down the streets, you must get there early!

I would love to meet any or all of you who are here--I don't think I will be holding a get together at Long Pond as I said earlier that I might because we are still quite overwhelmed...but walk up and say hi in town.

I am looking forward to celebrating all that Caleb has conqured over the past year and for all of his accomplishments. I am one proud mumsie! Thank you all for being with us --we are all walking this walk!

With the Lindsay/Potters in attendance, it's bound to be an exceptionally grand and glorious parade!

See you there!

I will definitely be there, and I will look for you. I am a bit shy, though, so if you see this dark haired woman staring, it could be me! I did introduce myself to Kevin a few weeks ago, so perhaps I am braver now.

At any rate, I can't wait to see Caleb in the parade. My eyes are already filling.

I was so looking forward to watching Captain Yellow Beard marching in the parade. After 21 years of being on the Cape for the 4th of July, this year we have to be in New Jersey for a family commitment. I will be thinking of all of you and wishing we were there. Celebrate the miracle of Yellow Beard!!!!!

I bet tears of joy will be flowing in Wellfleet tomorrow. God bless you Sharyn and your boys. Although it will be an occasion to celebrate, I'm sure you will have some down time too.
Embrace the love coming your way in person and from cyberspace.

Mornin' Sharyn,
Thanks for the info. We plan to
be there to cheer for your pirate!
Hoping to see you, but we don't
live as far away as some bloggers,
so we'll meet you now or we'll meet you later this season. Have a lovely summer! I hope Max is feeling better, and that you'll all enjoy a healthy time now, with less stress, more peace.
Take care,
Janet and David (Eastham)
and Nana (visiting from Worcester)

Tomorrow, Independence Day, I will celebrate many things:

Obviously, the independent spirit that was the founding of this country and which continues in so many forms today.

The growing independence of Caleb and the strong inner strength that has kept him pushing and healing.

Sharyn, your independent spirit that is you and you have instilled in your kids, and made this "a given" with them and all you have shared here and chose not to. Long may your red lipstick gleem!

The independent spirit of Caleb, Max and Kai as you blaze your own trails independently but also as a family.

The independent spirit that is in those who live by and with the sea and who are the community of 'fleet.

The independent spirit that is so evident in all who visit this blog and comment or who visit to just bear witness.

Added to my own list, there is so much wonderful independence here, in so many forms to celebrate.

Happy 4th....Happy independence day to all!

I have been leading a nomadic existence on cape for the past couple of weeks and have had minimal computer access so this is the first opportunity I've had to catch up on the blog. You have all been in my thoughts, however, and as we approach the 4th I will continue to carry you in my heart--you are an awesome inspiration. Max, feel better; Timmy and Sharyn, belated happy birthday (mine was the 23rd); and Caleb and Kai, Rock On! I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow and hoping for a triumphant day.
Love,
Alycia/Goatlady

Dear Sharyn,

We are thinking of you today, on the anniversary of Caleb's brave insistence on living and thriving.

We were bodily in Wellfleet a year ago, and have been with you soulfully ever since. Not to sound strange (although why not?), your writing and Caleb's courage have quite frankly changed my life. Thank you for your fierceness and gentleness and for your hopeful honesty. It has been a gift.

All our far-away stranger love to you and the boys.

"Here's to one more trip around the sun..." Sharyn, Caleb, Kai and Max, your stength, courage, determination and sheer gumption has been such an inspiration to me this past year, I have learned so much from you all, but mostly I have learned to walk with grace.

May you all continue to walk with grace today on this day of overwhemlming emotion.

Peace to you all-
Audrey

Sharyn, It was wonderful to meet you and even more wonderful to see Caleb! He looks great, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I saw him walking by. The cheers for him were the warmest. I called out his name, and he looked right at me and smiled.

There is a photo of him in the parade on the Chez Sven blog, along with other good photos of the festivities.
