On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Typical Sunday morn.

Kai and Caleb just finished making Sunday morning banana pancakes...and polished them off without chewing. They are presently trying to rouse that sleeping Max in order to take a dump run for me while I scald myself with that fifth cup of coffee. The Times sits on the chair still coalated waiting for the curious seeker of bad news.
Life seems almost normal in the Potter household.
After a grueling 8 months, we are finding our stability in ordinary life at home. We are accepting in order to except and more more frequently we are finding our balance in laughter, as has been our sanctuary in the past.
Caleb is stronger than all of us and I catch the boys with a sideways glance watching him as tho he knows something that they don't. Caleb has bequeathed us with an urgency to get our lives right, to question those safety berms we hold to our sides, and is nudging us into a healthier state of mind. Caleb's stillness has made us loud with intent.
Now when I wake in the middle of the night I can tell my heart is slowly mending itself ..it is no longer a mess of puzzled pieces on the ground trying in vain to make sense of this picture.
Kai and Max continue to inspire and Jenny plays witness to his smile every day.
I will be burning today- nothing better than a good blaze to fuel the thoughts and sear the fears.
We are ever hopeful- ever willing and earnestly looking forward to growth. Spring is in the air.
Love to all of you, mumsie
PS. On Caleb's slate of goals is a listing: to walk in the forth of July parade as Yellowbeard...we will see you there.

One of the highlights of the Wellfleet parade is Caleb as Yellowbeard. When he is in the parade this year, wow, that will be a sight. I imagine there will be more than a few teary eyes as he walks by.

Hello Sharyn,

I do so admire your tenacity!

I haven't been on the blog for a while but that doesn't mean you all haven't been in my thoughts. Amy stj came to visit for a very short time. A dear friend lost her husband a couple of weeks ago in a terrible accident and Amy came to spend time with her and me. We had dinner with Tina (our friend) and she asked about Caleb because she knew of his accident from me. She has a long road ahead of her with,I am sure, ups and downs. She is a strong young woman(42)and hopefully with continued support of friends and family and her 9 yr. old, life will at some point level out. I can't imagine what she is going thru nor can I imagine what you have been thru. All I can think of is "one day at a time."

Love,peace and lots of love.

We will all be there with bells on and plenty of tissues to sop up the joyful salty mess. My own children will attest that I'm a happy crier - they place bets at Christmas, on birthdays and at graduations and weddings - who will be the first to make Mama cry and how far into the day will we get...usually not very. The 4th of July tears are ones that I'm looking forward to with exceptional delight.

Big love from me and mine -

Susan

Sharyn,

Maybe you can find a "Good Car" to drive in the "Antique Auto" portion of the Fourth of July parade this year...One that makes it to the finish line I mean! I know you will! We won't talk any further about your auto choices. Don't want your family laughing at you again! There will be LOTS of cameras clicking that day when Yellowbeard goes by...

Keep smiling,
Kevin

Boy Sharyn. We are grateful for the just about daily updates! It seems this blog is quite the possitive therapy for you & that makes us super happy. Today we saw the most beautiful 7 foot waves attracting completely crazy surfers to get pumbled in their crystal clear rage. We thought about Kai & the other Fleetians while we were perched up under a cave on an incredible rocky point. We are sending ALL our love to Caleb at every moment. Keep ragin lad, we are so proud of you!!!!!

I must confess that we have never been to a Wellfleet July 4th parade: we are usually scared away by the crowds and lack of parking. But you can be sure that we will be there this year---even if we have to walk in from our cottage a couple of miles away.

So glad to hear all the healing that is going on, putting all those puzzle pieces back together.

Dear Sharyn,
Your post today did bring some wet eyes because there is nothing like normalcy after the grueling events you have been through. I am so happy that everything does seem to be finally over and life's road has become much easier to navigate. Spring is on the way with a rebirth for you. I would love to see Caleb in the parade. Who knows.........maybe I will. Promises, promises. One of these days I will surprise you with a call.
Love ya,
Sue

Sharyn,
That's the spirit! The 4th should always be a day to celebrate...life. Forget about the founding fathers, let's celebrate the Potter Boys and Potter/Lindsay clan, and let's not forget the spirit of Yellow Beard - man, that will be a sight to see!

Your entry today certainly evokes wonderful memories; nothing like hanging out at Long Pond and standing around while Sharyn is burning, sharing a beer or more, and lots of laughs and stories.

I am sure the old "routine" seems very exciting.
Take care, greetings, positive vibrations!
Love,
Claus
