On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Girlfriend update!!

Leaving the Hospital with the Family!!

Look how adorable Caleb's little smile is.

I asked Caleb to do a " leaving the hospital dance", and he did a lil jig for ya!!!

So Caleb is homeward bound now. He has overcome the infection and his last CAT scan looked really good, so the doctors told Sharyn that Caleb was good to go home. We did want Caleb to go to a rehab center, so that he could catch-up on his therapies from where he was before. But, there are no beds available at any of the rehab centers off-cape and on-cape. Therefore, Caleb is being brought home and he will ressume his therapies at RHCI in Orleans. Caleb was doing very well before he was admitted into the hospital again, but lying in a bed for 3 weeks does nothing good for the body. He has to rebuild his speech again and many other areas need to be worked on. We will work very hard with him everyday, and try to get back to where Caleb was before. I personally think that Caleb thrives while at home. He has the most amazing friends, who love to come see him as much as they can, and his family is so helpful to his every need. Caleb will also work as hard as he can, because he tries his hardest in every task that he is given, and he really wants to get better fast. We will give another update in a couple days and let you all know how he is doing at home!!! I think that this is such a great way to start off the New Year. Thank you everyone for your support and prayers. Love you all
-jennie

Hi Miss.Jennie,
Thanks for the update, Girly!!! That is SO AMAZING that Caleb is able to come home again. I too think that Home is where he "should" be. He DOES have the most amazing friends and family, and they are a BIG part of his recovery. I personaly think that hospitals, and hospital settings are depressing, and nothing is better than one's home. Good for all you guys...I'm so happy for all of you.

If I weren't clamped in a "surgical bra" (think 5 lbs of sausage in a one lb bag) and on Dr.'s orders not to bounce (bounce??!! I can't move!)I would be jumping for joy! Caleb going home, such sweet words to hear today!! And those beautiful pictures! And Sharyn, your wonderful hat!!Thank you for giving me more to smile about...(painkillers are the greatest invention) I am very, very happy for all of you...I am sure that Caleb will thrive on his home soil. Keep fighting, Caleb!!

And a huge thank you to all of you for your prayers and good wishes, I can't tell you how much it has buoyed my heart and soothed my psyche.
As always, with hope,

YEAHHHHHHHH. Grinning from ear to ear. Jennie, you just distill it all into the sweet essence of JOY!! So happy that Caleb will be home, home, home with family and friends and the salt air of Wellfleet. I know it's magic will work wonders.

And Peg, how great to see you already on the computer. That speaks so strongly of your will. We have all been thinking of you and hoping for a good outcome. But to see you already posting is a great sign.

The warming sun is coming, a sign of midwinter high energy I hope. Love to all.

Hey Peg- good to hear from you, been wondering how you made out.

So glad Caleb is coming home. No beds in any rehabs sounds to me like he was meant to go home.

And Jennie, glad you are better too!

WhooHoooooooo! This is wonderful news, so happy to see all of your beautiful faces and yes Sharyn that hat...Girl that hat rocks! Over the years I've succumbed to several major surgeries and recoveries and yes Jennie, being a bed for 3 weeks does nothing good at all for the body! But the good news is that as soon I started exercising and doing physical therapy again all of those atrophied muscles rewarded me with a renewed sense of strenght. He will start getting stronger almost immediately as the muscles have a great memory and will bounce back quickly. (I suspect his brain will bounce back quickly as well once it is stimulated with therapy)

Potters/Lindsays and Jennie enjoy this homecoming, a spring thaw is on the way, and Caleb will be able to enjoy the great outdoors once again in mild weather.

Peace to all-
Audrey

PS- Peg, keep those pain killers comin', don't be brave, it's hard to get on top of the pain if you let it get away from you...Best wishes for a quick recovery. Peace.

Hooray for Peg - what an amazing woman you must be - never complaining, always helpful to those who read your words here - and spunky!! - to be online so soon after surgery. You're going to be fine!

Caleb, great news about going home. Rest, rehab, and friendly visits are just what's needed.

Take a look at that first photo and the look Kai is giving his brother. That's the secret of Caleb's recovery, which we all hope will be glitch free from now on. That and the terrific girlfriend. And...oh, then there's the mom. If you can be stylish even when leaving the hospital after weeks you can be stylish anywhere. Welcome back Caleb. The home team is rooting for you always.

I have been following Caleb and everyone with great interest. I've told many tourists, last summer, what the signs and pow wow spot on Town Hall lawn were for.

I was more than happy to put my change with every purchace in Caleb's jars that his friends put out.

Then the jars dissapeared! I was bereft. I thought it was such a good way to defray the HUGE medical costs involved with this kind of injury. I know you don't have enough.

I'm hoping to see the jars back in every store this spring. I can't afford much so going to the bank with 30 cents won't happen. But it would happen over and over again if they were back...they need some fanfare however.

Maybe different types of posters. Maybe with an explanation (short)for the store windows. Something that let's people know they can join in with this wonderful town to help save Caleb's life. Things like, the huge, monster costs involved are so huge, caleb's family couldn't pay them back in a hundred years. Worded carefully though.

Heck, I'll be glad, if you all want,to design various wordings for several posters that whoever is good at it, finds pictures for.

My name is Canary Burton. I put that huge, gothic lantern at the Town Hall site and kept it stocked with candles. I wondered where it went one day. Not that I want it back, but I thought it was being used. Well anyway, now the mstery is solved. You "know" who I am.

Hi Canary! Good to hear from you. So happy to hear that Caleb and Pat are doing well, will check in for further updates. Sharon, Judging from your wonderful "leaving Boston" outfit the other day your sense of humor is clearly still intact. That's a good thing. Come over for tea some day. I've wrestled the dust bunnies into submission for now. Love, Susanna

To Wellfleet bloggers from a faraway blogger - does anyone have an update on the whereabouts/conditions, etc. of Caleb and family? It's been a while and we're wondering and worrying. Jennie, you still hold the record for the best blog posts ever. Your love for Caleb and his family shines through your unselfish self!!

I expect that with the setback of 3 weeks in hospital, Caleb and family are playing a lot of catch up with his various therapies. I suspect that there is more settling in this time than last, and that there just has not been time for anyone to sit down and post. I always figure no news is good news, and will continue to hope that this is the case here
That being said, I pray that all is well at home, and have faith that it is so.
As always , with hope,

P.S. I am doing OK ; many many thanks to all of you out there for your help and support. You warmed my heart in a sweet and tender way.

Driving east of the Mass Pike to work a few mornings ago I was struck by the sight of not one but two partial rainbows. I have always viewed rainbows as an amazingly simple but awe inspiring sign of hope.

Rather than go across the sky in a typical bow these rainbows both came straight down to two different distant spots on the horizon. One was in the east in the direction of Caleb and the Potter / Lindsay clan and other was to the south in the direction of Peg in Pa. How sweet I thought.

Wishing you all the best.

Anonymous said...

Peg,
It is good to hear that you are doing OK. You have a whole group of friends here following your Journey, and from what Jeff-in -the- Berkshires just shared, you have had a special Massachusetts rainbow named in your honor...how cool is that !

Like you, l have assumed that the Potter/ Lindsay clan is busy settling in and getting back on schedule...and hopefully enjoying the unusually warm weather. (Today was a great day be outside in the Wellfleet sun). Gail

Anonymous said...

WOW, what a day here in Massachusetts!!! Hoping the Lindsay/Potter clan got outside to enjoy the smell of the earth thawing itself out. Even if it is only for a few days, the taste of things to come may buoy you up during the months ahead. I'm trying to imagine you all settling back in to your cosy home and starting the rebuilding process once again....closer to your friends and loved ones. All of us in cyberspace are thinking of you every day still, and sending out those positive vibes.

And to you too, Peg. Hope you have a steady recovery. Always enjoy your posts.

Are you at home in Wellfleet? How is Caleb doing with another round of rehab? Has Kai gone back to school? Is anyone from Wellfleet able to post an update for us who are far away?

Peg, you continue to amaze - so wise and wonderful a woman! Please continue to heal and keep that spirit alive!

Anonymous said...

It is wonderful that you are all back home and I hope that the next few weeks prove rewarding in the rehab department. Just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day!!! Time is an amazing thing and there seems to be plenty of it--moving either too slow or too fast and we try to use it to the best of our ability and hope for great results! "All in good time."

And to Peg----I hope you have a speedy recovery. From what I have read on the blogs you seem to be doing just fine. Keep up the good work.

Peace,love and positive thoughts.
