On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Here we go.........

Strong but gentle, pliant but tough, fierce but feisty, scrambled and yet hard boiled at the same time--my Caleb is under going surgery at this very moment. We have girdled him with our love and expect nothing less than a positive result. Kai, Max and Tim will arrive tonight and tomorrow we will light a candle on Caleb's tray table, eat a Thanksgiving dinner prepared by disgruntled cafeteria workers who want to be home, and we will bless the time we share and the love we have grown to expect from one another. Indeed - it will be the Thanksgiving that memeories are made of. I will let you know of the outcome as soon as I know- but rest assured- the boy was ready to roll and is looking forward to the sands of Fleet between the feet. Enjoy loving one another tomorrow. God Bless...Love you most decidedly. Mumsie

Dear Sharyn and Caleb;
We only know ech other slightly and Wellfleet very well, but thru these blogs, I have come to know you two so much better.
Best of luck over the Thanksgiving Holiday, and keep that stream of wonderful writing coming thru so that we can stay abreast of the good news as it comes thru.

Sending positive thoughts your way........

Great abunbant spirit that surrounds, supports and guides us be especially with Caleb in this surgery and in his recovery. Give him peace and strength. Guide the hands and minds of the gifted clinicians at his side. Be with Sharyn, Kai and Max. Let them know your presence and remind them of the many many people that hold them in their thoughts. Grant them peace.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. You are all together even if it is having cafeteria food and that is good. That we have connected in with your lives and this journey we are thankful.

Sharyn and Caleb,
Haven't been in touch for awhile but check the updates (poetic and beautifully written) daily. Our family will add yours to our Thanksgiving prayers tomorrow. Your journey in many ways has become our journey. The roller coaster ride of it all has been frightening, mind expanding, overwhelming and healing...big scares and then big joys...amazing.
You are one tough, wonderful, loving, family and hundreds of us have come to know you, your circle of friends, and the amazing Wellfleet better through all of this.

Thank you, thank you, and bless you all.

XO,
Suz Brigham
As I begin chopping the onions and celery and bread for tomorrow's stuffing in a few minutes I will be intentioning mightily for Caleb's successful procedure this morning!

Dear Caleb, Family, Jennie, and your dear friends,

Praying for Caleb and you all today. May Caleb breeze through this surgery and his recovery, and return to Wellfleet as soon as possible.

I will pray for you all as I light my prayer candle today, and each day thereafter. Best wishes for a successful surgery, and strength to keep going strong on the road to recovery.

Thanksgiving day blessings to you all.

Before I start making a couple of squash pies, I want to take a moment to offer my thanks to the Potter family and for all who contribute to this blog. You continually remind me of what's most important in life: friendship, love, family and a God above who watches over us.

Having never experienced Thanksgiving, I can only derive from the title that thanks is given for family, friends, food and love. I light a candle for you all tonight and embrace your positive outlook to my own life and family. Bless you Sharyn, Caleb, Max, Kai and Jennie.

Sharyn,
There is a candle lit and burning brightly today as there will be tomorrow also. Our dinner prayer will include all of you, don't know you at all, but you have become so important to me. God bless, and give Caleb special thanksgiving wishes from all of us in cyber space.

Sharyn, no wonder your boys turned out so damn well. I have always wanted to be like you and the Potter boys in your spirit and your love of life.

I prayed for Caleb all morning more than usual and now I know why as I get home from the Oxygen Chamber and read the blog. Good luck to all and well wishes so the Doctors may be sharp and the pain minimal. I know the man you raised will continue to amaze us in his recovery and the bravery and love he is so full of. I send all my Thanks for everything and this holiday to the whole clan to give you all some extra strength, extra love, and extra understanding.
I am thankful for so much this year and a lot of it has to do with Caleb... or you...or anyone from the clan...the tribe.
I must say holidays are very dear to me as well and I too have had the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital (as well as a birthday and an Easter and one of my sister's birthdays all in the same year) it can be tough on the spirit but every holiday from here on out will have special meaning because it will be at home and/or together and healthy.
It was very emotionally trying as I expect it is for you and Caleb as well. I know I was extremely happy that my dad stayed with me every time I was in the hospital and especially during this time. The rest of my family managed to come up later that day with a home cooked meal and all I really cared about was that they were all there and we were laughing...just plain having fun and enjoying each others' company...we were there being thankful for all the little things and the holiday managed to not be so bad after all.
I know for a fact there will be a lot of thanks and love heading your clan's way tomorrow and everyday. Today I must thank you as I have done before for taking me and everyone else on this incredible journey and in my heart and dreams I know some day we will all look back on these days and how they have changed us all, how we love more openly and with more passion and conviction. So thank you Von Lindsay/Potter Clan for making life real for anyone who didn't already know.
I can't wait for the jag on the beach...with a keg....a three palette high fire to warm us after a swim in the ocean...with the sand in our toes and I can hear the guitar and some drums in the background....I see everyone there and all of the clan and most of the tribe, Especially Caleb's beaming body of pure love and life!!!! Thank god for vivid realistic dreams...they feel like they are mere moments away from being real.
With lots of love and care and the best wishes I can send your way, Rachael
P.s. Speedy recovery for Caleb and may this only be a brief hiccup and to all of your clans' feet being firmly planted back on Wellfleet soil/clay/sand.

Many thanks to all of you this thanksgiving for being so caring and giving, be proud of trying to live life to it's fullest and to trying to be a better person.

Dearest Sharyn and Caleb -

A candle burns brightly on my mantel for you now and and you will join us at our table tomorrow in the form of candlelight, too.

You and yours have shimmered for us since the first time we saw you and it seems so fitting that you continue to shimmer in a very real way while we gather to give thanks...for each other and for our riches - the list of which begins this year with new found friends and the continuing miracle of Caleb.

We're counting our blessings and holding you snug in our hearts, as ever...

Love Love Love,
Susan

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you...I'm sitting here on St.John, so far away from all of you, and even though I haven't even been here for 12 hours yet, the familiarity of seeing Caleb's face on the blog and hearing your words Sharyn has made me a bit homesick. I know all will go well and you will be back in Potterville soon soon soon.
As soon as I got off the ferry and set foot the little island on which I have spent most of my life, I was overwelmed with the realization that Wellfleet feels so much more like home to me than this ever did.....missing you and off to the beach to swim and lay under my favorite palm tree in the shade and concentrate on sending you sunshine and happy thoughts..amystj xoxoxxoxoxoxxoxo
