On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Get out your boots folks. We'll see you there!

“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
-Jimmy Dean

YES, it's rainy. YES it's windy. and YES, Caleb is still coming home! The crew has left spaulding (around 9:30 am) and will be coming through Wellfleet Center soon! We'll plan to be in town around 11:30/12ish. We're not sure exactly how long it will take them to get to Wellfleet but we'll be waiting...nor' easter or no nor' easter! Caleb left Wellfleet during a storm and he's coming home during one. Gotta love that lad! Hope to see you on the lawn!

So happy to hear our favorite pirate is heading back home! I wish I could be there to see it, after being a part of the blog for so long. It's sure to be an amazing thing.

I'm sure y'all will provide quite the warm welcome on the green! With all the people's lives that he has touched - the storm won't stand a chance. Pack the people in and give him a huge cheer and wave from those of us stuck too far away to come!

Hugs to everyone, Especially Sharyn for weathering this all with such strength and humor! You guys are a special bunch.

I can picture the lawn from our brief visit to Wellfleet back in July. I have spent the day (its nearly over now in the UK) thinking about Caleb and the fqntastic achievement of his homecoming. I have spontaneously said to my family at several intervals today "Caleb Potter goes home today" I am buzzing about it.
Hope everyone settles back in. Love Ali Manchester UK

Caleb, Sharyn, and all the other Fleetians who have brought a sense of community back to this end of the Cape...There's not a day that goes by when I don't think of you all and all you're going through...I've never met any of you, and I live in Truro, yet your sharing of this journey is a gift that's felt in such huge SPIRIT! You have reminded me what it's like to be part of something way bigger than just the one and through your sharing and all of the prayers from both known and unknown friends, you've brought a reality to the strength of humanity. I think it's perfect that this storm is bringing Caleb home today....he's a child of the sea...the sea is rising to greet him and welcome him home.

Amy, and everyone who is waitng to hear that Caleb has arrived in Wellfleet,

I am not an official spokesperson, but I was in front of Wellfleet town hall when Caleb arrived just after noon (approx.) today...a rain and wind event, with friends and well wishers cheering, and many of us were all choked up (not at the same time that we were cheering )! The truck slowed down, and then turned the corner into the town hall driveway, where it stopped and Sharyn and Kai could be seen with the most radiant grins I have seen in a long time. I was in the back of the crowd and therefore I couldn't see everything, but it was my sense that Caleb then got out and mingled briefly with those who were close to the truck (someone can correct me if I am wrong). Everyone was arrghing, whooping, and carrying on. Pirate flags were lifted high. It was too much ! Gail

Anonymous said...

Well the wind's still blowin'...the rain is falling harder....it sure didn't back off for Caleb's arrival....a truly great flag day!!!! and the pirate Flags were waving !!!large and small!!!Folks started to gather for Caleb around 11:30...and the reports from up the highway started to roll in..til finally we heard that they'd called from Eastham ....7 minutes ago....

we were shuckin' Oysters for Caleb's Day and storm and arrival as fast as they could get on the tray they were being scoffed down!!!! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Oysters for breakfast on the Town Hall Lawn....

By the time Caleb and crew came around the corner....(my guess!!!) we were 150 strong!!!(did anyone count????in all the variety of foul/fowl weather gear you can imagine....and a lot of fleetian crazies trying to keep the wind and rain at bay with UMBRELLAS ????!!!! who says we all-ways make great decisions????!!! O-;....

Caleb and sharyn parked on the FAR-Side (of course!!) of town Hall and Caleb emerged into the storm to greet "his family" and we arrrrrgggghed in WELCOME to the lad..hugs and tears were ALL forthcoming..soonly they all, Kai and Max and sharyn and Jan ..and and and.... retreated to the truck and headed to Potter/Lindsay Land...I was able to pass the rest of the Oyster tray to Jan thru his truck window...to share ...back at the RANCH....the hoots and prayers and flag wavings continued till they were way out of sight....and the FAMILY melted back into our little Town....with HUGE SMILES and gratitude that the LAD is Back to FLEET.....Welcome home Cabes/Leb/Lad....and SHARYN......and big hugs to everyone in this AMAZING CIRCLE....light!ly....ch/dad...still soggy ....but/and still smilin'!!!@!

Amen to that, Tracy in the Berkshires! Thanks to everyone for the reports on the arrival--ch I especially love your posts. And Sky, the boots are great...i especially love the pirate ones. And finally Caleb and Sharyn are back in their Wigwam so regardless of the weather outside the sun is shining in our hearts!

Timmy I'm sorry that we weren't able to catch up :( :( I didn't get free until 10:30 this morning so I knew I'd never make it to Fleet on time--I had you guys in my heart but I'm still bummed about not being there in person. Hopefully our paths will cross in the future--if there is a big blowout next summer for all the cyber friends I'll definitely turn up! Meanwhile, love to everyone and be well! XXOOO Alycia

You did it! Not a dry eye on town hall lawn and it wasn't caused by the rain. thank you chuck, oysters for Caleb and for Peace - it's the same thing. Caleb, I will never ever forget the look on your face and your family's. I tried to capture it on my little video but I ran out of batteries. Oh well, my husband always says it's in the mind's eye anyway.

DIERDRA,
You asked me what "Caleb meant" when we were awaiting the arrival of Mr.Potter in the storm today. Well, since I couldn't answer you then, I looked it up, and here's what I came-up with.....

Most websites say that Caleb means "DOG". Others say that Caleb means Faithful;BOLD. I actally found one site that sad that it means "RAGE like a dog"....That's more the CALEB WE KNOW....LOL :)

Caleb was the name of one of the spies sent by Moses in to Isreal. Caleb and Joshua were the ONLY two Isrealites that lived to see the promised land.

Nicole,
I found this after reading your post....Am I right,? your little one is Caleb as well.
I thought this was interesting enough to share,

Many name books / websites list the meaning of CALEB as "Dog". However, a simple look in a Hebrew / English dctionary one will see that "dog" in Hebrew is CELEB, not CALEB. **Note** the first vowel is different.

CALEB is actually a compound word in Hebrew - something that is quite common in ancient Hebrew. Col (Cuf + Lamed) = all or whole. Lev (Lamed + Vet) = heart. Therefore, CALEB (or COLEV as pronounced in Hebrew) actually means "whole hearted".

Works for me!!!!!!!!

Sky,

Do you have any larger sizes in the boots? None of them seem to fit me... I'll take the blue ones in size 11 wide. Too late now my feet and everything else are all wet. No comments on that thought please... That was quite the arrival! I stood with an umbrella over me and Chris M. with his camcorder up Main St. towards the churches looking for Max's van and a papparazzi moment. Suddenly we saw Jan in his pickup truck and then another pick up truck goes by with lo and behold Caleb looking right at me with a smile. Well that caught us by surprise to say the least!! Not a dry eye on the Town Hall lawn. What a rush to see Caleb get out of the pickup to greet a few people with Sharyn crying happy tears and greeting everyone she could. That's a lifetime memory for sure!

Thanks to everyone who provided us with the update. I wish we could have been there, but reading your descriptions was so powerful that I can imagine the whole scene. Now if someone can post a video, that would be awesome.

I am so happy to imagine Caleb in Wellfleet, in his home, breathing the fresh sea air (with the rain in it). I hope that he got to take a ride along Oceanview Drive and see the water or along the bay. I know it is the first thing I want to do when I arrive in town and the last thing I do before leaving.

Peace and love to all. May the sun come out tomorrow, literally and figuratively!

OK...OK....before we get to see the video footage... I have to admit that I got a "second opinion"....admittedly...a "little close to home" ...a literal 'few minutes ago'..Cedar and I were mutually shivering in the book yurt...waiting for the gusts to subside a bit (not YET, I can assure you!!!)...and I asked him how many of us were on Town Hall lawn....and HIS estimate was 45-50....maybe 60 warm bodies....and then...considering my earlier "guess-timate!!!" since I certainly don't want you all to "not trust" the crowd estimates of the "peace-guy"....in the future!!!....and until we have an attendee that took the time to count!!??...I must admit that .....with all the folks HERE on the blog ...that weren't able to be ACTUALLY STAND ON Town Hall lawn today....my guesstimate was still probably low!!!! and if we were measuring LOVE Wattage/Voltage....what with ALL of us in this circle....WE WERE OFF THE CHARTS !!!!##%#%&&%

Welcome HOME von-Potter/Lindsays....and enjoy those breezes that drift through the Pine trees!!!!!! eeeeeeeks!!!YIKES and AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!.... enough already....happy Homecoming from the WHOLE extended Family....light!ly....ch/dad

Oh yes the weather is raging still but our hearts in Wellfleet are calm because Caleb and Mumsie are home. What an unbelievable moment to witness, the pickup truck pulls up with Kai's huge happy grin so bright I thought the sun was out - a few tentative moments while we all held our breath, then the doors opened and Sharyn helped Caleb out and onto the lawn with the gentleness and care of a true Mumsie watching out for her babe. And Caleb's grin and his bright sharp eye greeting the crowd, who stayed at a respectful and calm distance, and Sharyn's tears which moved us all to cry too. A couple of hugs and squeezes and pats on the shoulder, then the cheers - and more tears - and aaarrrggghhh's and shouts of "welcome home" and "we love you" and "life is good". It was love and compassion and joy in action, right here in the heart of Wellfleet.
Welcome home Caleb and Sharyn - your family has grown in the past five months and we are all here for you.
May you find peace and happiness and joy at home, surrounded by the family you all have inspired and created.
Continued prayers for healing,
Joan
