On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

I am marking the passing of time by the pill box that needs to be filled and re-filled each week and with the number of birthdays that pass. We are all summer babies, with the exception of Kai who likes to be original and arrived in December. Jan's was the 5th of this month...Timmy's was yesterday, Max is in July; Aunt Carol as well, and mine is today.
As I was lying in bed this morn watching the hummingbird who has taken to my particular mix of sugar water, I found myself asking for a miracle. Then just as quickly as the pill box empties, or the birthdays come and go, I realized that I am sitting right next to one who is busily munching on his morning snack of berries and cream.
My gift to myself this morn...to consciously try to choose the better thought. If I am to try to see this situation with Caleb differently, then I must change my mind about how I perceive things.

The Fourth is approaching and we are looking forward to celebrating freedom, and life and all the things that come our way to teach us how to live.

Today, in Wash DC, it is one of those rare days in June that we dream about throughout the rest of the year -- bright, clear, warm, breezy with puffy clouds, heartening and uplifting. It is also keenly associated with the best of YOUR Wellfleet.

Best wishes for a perfectly fine BIRTH DAY - one that fills you up to the brim!

Happy Birthday, Sharyn! And what a glorious day it is here in Wellfleet---a true summer day.

Our family also has all summer birthdays (except for my husband) as well as summer anniversaries (ours and our daughter's). I have always loved the summer best.

Keep dreaming of miracles.

Good day and happy birthday, from an old friend of George & Vivi (by way of Harshbargers). Have followed this blog page since it was created and am often sending good feelings in your direction.

Have you seen the following talk on TED-Talks - some good thoughts on keeping the noise level in our brains down.

Happy Birthday dear Sharyn! it takes alot of self convincing sometimes to see the brighter side. But you allow yourself to see both sides, in which i think is healthy for you. It's another coincidence that i went to wellfleet today to walk as i did on Jan's birthday too. I hope your enjoying your day with your boys, love u, grace

A birthday thought that someone once sent to me on my birthday....

"Sometimes a birthday is not our favorite day. We look in the mirror and wonder 'Who is this older woman who suddenly appeared?'
Welcome her! She comes bearing gifts of perspective and wisdom. She is your finest accomplishment so far."

Thinking of you and sending warmest wishes for a good good birthday. Remember to love the journey.

Happy,Happy Birthday to you Sharyn!!

Think Monty Python...the broadway show SPAMALOT and the song -
"Always Look On The Bright Side of Life"!
If you know it and how silly and ridiculous it is -I hope it brings a silly smile to your face - but you know what?
I actually find myself singing that to myself often - so simple ,but that line is just so true and to the point - of life, that is -
Why look on any other side?
The bright side is always so much better!!

Hoping you have some gorgeous bunches of birthday blossoms scenting your home tonight!

With love and support from New York -Nancy

Hi Sharyn,
Happy Birthday!
I fondly remember being at one of your Birthday parties a few years ago when you fulfulled a wish and provided lead vocals with a live band in your living; black cocktail dress, high heels, long flowing blonde hair, and bright red lipstick...belting out 'R-E-S-P-E-C-T'!! with a gaggle of Fleetian moms singing back-up. Then, and now, you rock! You are a role model to all women, moms, and humankind. I am proud to call you my friend.
Hope you had a wonderful day.
Lots'o'love,
Claus

Happy birthday Mumsie, I would have wished you one earlier but since I am only 15 days out of surgery it takes a lot to get the energy up to do more than read the blog. That is if I didn't choose to read a book or magazine instead of the computer as I did earlier. For me one hand typing is much more effort amd slower than the two handed typing I am used to.(I have to have my left arm in a brace for about four more weeks, the brace holds my arm up close to the hight between my ear and my chin; Uncomfortable to say the least since my arm has not been that high in 10 years). Once my donor site on my leg heals I can start visiting and start to go out again YEEAAHHH!!!!
But back to you all, I pray/hope/wish you all the things you wish for from that inner heart held deep within your mind. You most definitely deserve many if not all of your dreams and wishes to come true for you. I hope that everyone who can, breaths in the summer air, hears the birds and waves as you lay basking in the warm rays with the feel of fresh sand around your feet between your toes as the sun begins explode into a canvas of colors as it sets. As well as everyone partying (safely) in the glowing of the moonlight.(I can't wait to be out enjoying summer on Cape Cod).
Thinking about your family, all of your fights and worries it helps me to deal with the pains and bitterness of my 15 surgeries on the same underarm that has been a complication since I was born. The flood of emotions that it might actually heal? Or the fear that it could fail even though it took 100% which I have hoped and prayed for quite a long time. I can pray now that it will heal 100% I hope.
So Sharyn hope and dream from that inner soul and you should some how get your answers when you need them the most or you have learned what you needed to learn. Thank your whole family for giving me the extra strength I needed, sometimes you need just a little more than an awesome familys' love like mine gives, so thank you for that little something extra. Well wishes for the whole clan, plenty more prays and good dreams straight to Caleb with love!!
Lots of love, hugs and kisses Rachael
I am sorry its so long ;D
P.s Happy belated Birthday again(when I started this it was Sunday, I hold you in my heart even tighter tonight. (I believe b-days can last as long as you want them to.
And I have been working hard to be healed enough to make it on the fourth, I promised it to myself as a reward if I did everything I could and as right as I could, that I could/will make it!!! Aaarrgghhh

Dear Sharyn,
I hope you had the happiest of birthdays. I missed the blogs for a few days, because we were celebrating June birthdays. So many of them! What is it about that seductive October?
My wish for you is sun-filled days and starlit breezy evenings and time to appreciate all the good things that will continue to grace your life. Happy Birthday.

This post made me cry, for some reason. My heart is with you, especially on your birthday. I think you're onto something really profound about perception, and how expectations can ruin things or make them wonderful.

Hello,
My name is Christine Laplante. I got your information from a friend of a friend here in cyberspace. She directed me to you site as she believes our journey to be similar. My daughter was in a severe boating accident about a year ago. The amount of support from our community, extended community, strangers...etc...has been absolutely heart warming and what gets us through.

I am here to say...keep doing what you are doing. Reading some of your posts...you are an amazing woman!

Sharyn -

Happy Happy Happy belated birthday to you! I'm know I'm not alone in being grateful that you were born...your presence is truly a gift to so many.

I've been lax about writing here lately, but I've been reading every day and holding you all in my heart. I'm SO very much looking forward to the 4th - to meeting everyone and connecting 3-dimensional faces and voices to names.

Soon -

Big Big Birthday Love,

Is there a plan for the 4th? I plan on going to the parade, but am not making any assumptions beyond that.
