On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

Ride away!

From now on- I'm holding up a bit longer on my post's because the comments start getting good and personal. On that note- scroll down to the last girlfriend update and read the very last comment---it is from Caleb and will give you a little insight into where he is inside his head.
Caleb is now experiencing some freedoms with each improved day, and I am allowed to be less and less of the mother hen that I needed to be for the past 8 months.
Jennie takes him off for lunch alone - often grabbing a sandwich and Spud and heading to the beach. Max and the boys haul him off for bowing more often and yesterday my dear friend Donald decided it was time that we tried a real bike -- and yes--Caleb rode his bike yesterday on a beautiful day with Donald and I running at his side to keep up. He was radiant! That ride took me back years to the first successful ride of his life and made me so proud!
We are forging ahead, not knowing the outcome, and learning not to care, but enjoying the passage all the same.
We are learning that our sorrow might just turn into our joy in another reflection.

Love ya all, mumsie

Love Caleb's post!!! It most certainly shows his core as a man filled with gratitude. Caleb's accident may have changed his head a bit, but his core remains the same fun-loving, gracious kid he was before July 4th.

Keep pedaling Caleb!

So glad to hear of his progress! I am amazed that he is flourishing like he is! It's no doubt from his family and friends love and dedication. I'm amazed at all the support everyone is so free to give. Special man, and special town for sure.

Sending positive thoughts your way from CT. Stay strong, and we love all of the updates

Spring is upon us and awakening all to the glory of growth, change, and life.
Way to go Caleb! Bike riding, bowling, and just getting outside will just add to what you are learning in therapy.

Praise all to the power of positive energy!

Sounds great Sharyn! Spring is here. It's about time to get those wheels rolling again. Say hi to yellowbeard for me. Thanks for pointing out the comment. It was great to read it. Love you guys!

Hi Sharyn,
You know, I remember reading that comment... and I must of had a dyslexic moment because I remember reading it as being signed off by "Lobster" and not Lebster, as I would have figured out it was Caleb. Your blog is wonderful news, so much progress, just goes to show what love, support, and youth can accomplish. I think we should all stand up and give Donald a round of applause - he is the man behind the scenes who deserves so much credit. We are still "6 feet under"... of snow here, but it is slowly melting.
Cheers,
Claus

I'm trying to get out of my mind the picture of Caleb riding merrily along on his bike while Donald and Sharyn run, panting and sweating beside him. It's not an image that easily disappears! But all progress is good news. That picture compared with some others that have appeared here a while ago means a lot. Thank and congratulations to all who have worked so hard for Caleb and to the man himself.

Awesome news! Hey everyone in Wellfleet....a VERY dear friend of mine is from you community and is moving back there VERY soon. She turned me onto this blog MONTHS ago and through time Caleb's story has touched my heart, my sole and ultimately changed my life (sound dramatic but it is true)! If you know who she is or see a familiar face turning up there earlier than this summer....please give her a big hug! You OBVIOUSLY have a VERY special community......I'm going to miss seeing my friend....

It is so great to have Calebs voice on the blog. Bike riding is such good therapy. What about swimming? It uses all of you and can help integrate the brain. Anyway, hearing Caleb speak was wonderful and all of us are cheering him on his journey to wholeness. Love, Susanna

Hey Caleb -
Can you even believe how many "strangers" and visitors to Wellfleet are out here caring about you and thinking about you everyday??
You live in quite the amazing town - where upon arrival last summer, we knew that something terrible had happened to one of it's own - and we were compelled to find out who and what had happened.....the love of your family and friends reached out and tapped so many visitors on the shoulder and made us care and pray for you also....
It is an incredible force - you and your family have that could touch so many lives....
That force will take you far for sure.

Stay well and strong and ENJOY!!

Amy, a little prayer just said at my computer.
Hang in there, we all have many people who love us, but sometimes life gets so low and our thoughts run wild...
NEVER FORGET, you touch someone everday just by being you.

Amy,

Thanks for speaking your truth and keep reaching out in your life. Breathing is a such a good medium for accessing joy and beauty. Mother earth is a healer, if you can, put your hands low to the dirt and feel the stability in that for grounding in your life...wishing you peace...

My dear Amy,
Don't lose hope, life does get better. It is so hard to feel that way when you are hurting or someone you love is hurting. But your troubles and low feelings will pass and you will survive it. I hope you can feel the strength I am sending your way.
Please let us know how you are doing...
As always, with hope, and love,

PS You Go Caleb! So great to hear your voice! Keep talkin!

Amy -

Somewhere here, many months ago someone (forgive me, please, for not remembering who) left a comment regarding the nature of healing - that it isn't linear - and that has stuck with me since. Life, much like healing, isn't linear either...there are peaks and valleys, ebbs and flows and there really isn't a discernable pattern to any of it. Please know that we're all out here with you in the valley, as we are at the peak, and I for one will add you to the mantel candles with Caleb and Sharyn and Peg (and Lisa B. and Deirdre - who have been conspicuously absent here, but not in my thoughts.)

Love to you, Amy - and strength to carry you through...

Susan

Amy in CT - I am thinking of you and hoping things turn around soon - they always do, one way or another - we go through whatever it is we are handed, and come out better in SOME way, on the other side.....even though that sometimes takes a long time to recognize!
Hang in - your cyber family is here for you -

Amy,
surround yourself with love, laughter, and peace right now because it will bring on a new life. We're given all sorts of crazy situations that no one is excused from. How we handle these situations defines our character. Take the good with the bad- lay out in the sun and dance in the rain. If life truly is like a rollercoaster and we all love traveling to the peaks, we must go through those scary dips to get back on solid ground.

The supportt hat you've been sharing with the Potter family and friends shows that you are a loving person. Know that love and support is heading in your direction. You will come out of this stronger than ever before!

Such great news from the Lindsay/Potter front! It sounds like Caleb is doing so well and how great to hear from the man himself. As someone who does not know him- or any of you- in person- it was such a treat to hear from him and to know he knows we are all out here holding him in our hearts and thoughts. It must be kind of a crazy feeling- to know there are all of these people you don't know- out there in the world who have become so invested in you and care so much for you and your family.

To Amy- I am sorry to hear your are struggling. Life can be quite difficult at times. One thing I have taken from Caleb and Sharyn is to always look for and hold on to the positive- even if it is hard to come by in your present situation- the idea- the hope that it could be aroud the corner. Hold on to that- and I will keep you in my thoughts.

Amy, You are in our hearts and prayers these days...wishing you peace. When I am overwhelmed I need to get outdoors into nature to find my calm center...but I know it's not always that simple. An older, wiser friend told me to put up a sign, when my life was a jumble of troubles, saying "This too shall pass". I never did put up the sign, but I think of her message often, and many troubles have indeed passed and changed to something better. I like the image of dancing in the rain. Hoping you'll soon dance.
blessings to all,
janet

Hey Lebster, I wondered if that was you and now the sighting has been confirmed. Great to hear from you and of your great progress.

Sharyn, I loved your update. To me there is no land based activity closer to flying than riding a bike. The rushing of the air, the motion, sailing along, the absolute freedom, the feeling that you could spread your arms and would lift off. Sounds like you folks are soaring.

Jeff- in the Berkshires said...

Amy, I hold you deeply in my thoughts and light a candle in my heart to send good messages throughout the day. Many of us know well the feeling of having the bottom drop out from under, but know that the thoughts, prayers and presence of the many who hear your call, whether writing or holding silent witness, weaves a mighty safety net that holds you tight. We are with you in thought….we are with you in prayer....we are with you!

Should you need to reach out, many of us have email links reached by clicking on our names at the main blog site.

Each morning when I leave the Berkshires for work, the highway does its usual ups and downs until it reaches a certain place where it just goes down and down for quite a while. The walls get higher and steep and block out the sun and are covered with massive waterfalls of ice and the temperature drops noticeably. On the other side of the road is a cliff plunging deeply to the river below. Yet it is in this somewhat foreboding spot I always feel a reassuring presence emanating…..Then shortly thereafter the walls part at a glorious gorge and the light floods in and I am on the flatlands.

Amy I hope that in the valley that you are in now that you also feel this presence, for I believe that it is in deep valleys that you can feel it the most. You are not alone……… And like my daily trip I look forward to the walls parting for you and the sun flooding in.
