On the fourth of July, 2007 Caleb Potter was involved in a skateboarding accident.
He suffered serious injuries and continues to need all of our positive thoughts and prayers.
This blog is to serve as a space for updates on Caleb's journey of recovery.

No- I am not finished here- just got slamp dunked by spring. Kai is basically running the show for me so that I can be with Caleb, but there are always a million and one things to do to keep the projects running smoothly, and I am the girl for that job!
We are holding up well..it is surgery on the horizon for my arm ( remember the fall in Jan?) I tore a ligiment..no wonder it is still in pain. Caleb has passed his test which is required by the state to see if he can take a drivers test and get back on the road. We are re-building the barn so that he can live independently in the fall, the house is in need of better windows which go in this May, ---so see what I mean by projects up the wazoo! Life is marching forward. We still find that we as a unit get sad and miss our Caleb and our "before" life. It is an empty glass of wine and a blanket tossed bed that I wake to each morning. Night time is daunting..but each morning when Caleb greets me with his "mornin mama" I praise the powers that be, fold my hands together and recite a thank you that clears the clouds above. We each get to choose how we will spend the day - in sorrow or in joy...and we are lookin to the joy side with a smile on our faces!

So glad to see your words today-to know that you have been busy with Spring... and life of course! I have never written here on the blog-but checked and read every day since day one-living in Brewster my whole life-knowing you Sharon through others and the boys too-your words always bringing strong emotions-pain,joy,love,blessings,heartache,hope,fear and more....saw this handsome guy in Orleans the other day as I was shopping and realized it was Kai-and then went next door to see you and Caleb shopping together-my eyes met yours in the store and I just smiled-wanting to say hello-to let you know that you are all a part of my every day-that I say prayers for all of you to find whatever it is that you each need each day to help you to continue to live and love-I wanted to say that as a mom I cannot imagine it-to tell you that your strength really, truly is an inspiration to soo many-so many like myself who want to give you your privacy to live your life-but who live their own in a much more different way-from reading your words... You, Caleb, Kai & Max are an example of LOVE in every single way possible-be well and keep on loving! Amy

Wow, Caleb driving! How excellent! I am sorry to hear about your arm but sometimes surgery is the quickest way to get better. With physical therapy I am sure you will be shoveling manure again in no time.

Sharyn, on balance, a wonderful report! Put it all together, and it's progress in a big way! I am sorry to read about your arm, but that, as you know, will be a temporary situation. Great to hear from you - I have to confess, I was getting a little worried. Tell Caleb Hello, and be well! We'll see you soon!

Sharon, I just spent this past weekend with my dear friend in my Tennessee hometown. Her youngest son, 26, was killed in a car crash last Wednesday. His life snuffed out in an instant because of the driver's mistake. He had been diagnosed with epilepsy as a toddler and was finally on his own, graduated from college, working and managing his epilepsy .... and then ... gone.... not here in any shape or form of being... Your Caleb is still there to say .. morning mama to you.. I am sure she would trade that with you any day for the sadness in her heart now... God Bless.. Greg's Mom

With sunshine at last, spring looks overwhelmingly beautiful today!

Sharyn, I found this post so hopeful. Caleb in his own living quarters, driving---those are steps that must have seemed impossible not that long ago. And being busy is probably the best thing for everyone.

Good luck with the surgery, and keep us posted.

and what a joyful hopeful update! Good stuff!

Spring seems to bring out the projects that just eat up the time. Just as the life around us seems to come alive so does that spirit deep from within us. Never ceases to amaze me.

Hi there,

See? Spring brings about all kinds of neat stuff. Fixing up the barn sounds like something I could really get into. Lucky Caleb!! Yeah-for passing the test.

Sorry about your arm--but you are a fast healer in many respects.

Good to hear from everyone again. I was just being patient as I knew it was only a matter of time.

Happy Mother's Day to you Sharyn and to all the Moms out there!

I will be in Wellfleet sooner than later-----------

Love and best wishes,

Penny

This is why we call Spring the time of re-birth. Congrats Caleb on passing the pre-test to the driver's test and your impending independent living. So much positive has happened....
